I haven’t seen this hypothetical brought up so was interested in discussing it. EHG recently said the only reason they are fixing infinite damage & survivability with Ghostflame is due to server instability: this begs the question, if the bug existed but did NOT cause server instability, would it then not be changed until the end of the cycle?
While I haven’t been a long time player, viewing old videos would show that many of the strongest builds have been due to bugged interactions often leading to an absolutely crazy amount of damage & survivability. That leads to success in this game being about finding these bugged interactions & then using them. My opinion is this would hurt the long term longevity of the game as it no longer is about coming up with unique builds for success, but rather, searching for the flaw in codes that you can rest assured won’t be fixed until the next cycle. My personal enjoyment comes from theory crafting a unique idea then implementing it, having it be really exciting when that idea comes to fruition. Thankfully this still works with or without the existence of bugs, but I do feel it is cheapened with the knowledge of bugged interactions being infinitely stronger (sometimes literally).
Furthermore, if these types of bugs aren’t fixed until the end of each cycle, that means balance overall will be harder to achieve. It will be more difficult to know the power of a Warlock by NOT fixing the bug, because the current iteration is largely represented by the strength of a bug that will now remain throughout the remainder of 1.1.
My hope is that the devs would reconsider this stance, though myself & many others will still find plenty of enjoyment if not. Ultimately it’s a matter of opinion so I wanted to put mine out there.
Very well said and I agree with every point. At this point as a CoF player it feels insane to not abuse these bugs to farm much higher corruption for drops.
I agree!
Not fixing stuff mid cycle game breaking or not is never a good idear.
I played Marksman on launch the made a warlock… after playing warlock with all these bugs i just feel weak with all other classes. These bugs take away the fun bec. you always know the class with the good bugs just feels better to play.
to not fix stuff bec. of server instability should not be a reason we as customers have to care about. sorry but as of now the game is released and not in beta anymore. this should have been tested and fixed while in beta state.
In my opinion this game has released too early for how many bugs it has. Last epoch is a good game and its fun thats why they get away with it but in the long run if these bugs dont get fixed asap the newer community will abandon ship. and some of these bugs are now in the game for a long long loooong time.
From the post, it seems they don’t consider those things bugs but overperforming skills.
i like their stance of not nerfing overperforming stuff for the cycle and nerfing it in the next, if you want to see the alternative look at Diablo 4 S1 and the complete catastrophe it was in terms of player morale to have stuff nerfed out of nowhere.
i do get the other side and you raise good points but I like this approach better.
Agreed. Fixing bugs mid-cycle is the lesser of two evils. D4 is actual living proof of the harm it can (and will) do.
They explained why they won’t fix n the notes. Seemed reasonable to me. Especially the bit about doing so would cause bugs to go underground, and the people using them would stop reporting them. That’s a new one on me but it sounds plausible. You know what leader board folk are like…
Am I insane for playing build I enjoy, trying to figure out how to make it work - instead of chasing someone’s guide mindlessly? I don’t understand why people freak out so much.
I agree. I’m a new LE player and I love the game. I have a warlock and I do not want to play any other class now because every other class (except for falconer) that I have tried feels like dogwater and is super slow. And Aspect of Death, a warlock talent that should give you 45% flat damage increase, doesn’t even work! With bugs like this it’s impossible to “plan ahead” for a cycle using something like a planner, when there’s no way to even know if your build is going to work without basically getting the character to level 90+ and testing it yourself.
So yeah, there are a LOT of bugs, some of them are very very bad. I don’t see myself continuing to play every cycle like I imagined I would my first 100 hours of playing if most of these issues aren’t resolved. Looking forward to see how the team handles it.
