The Campaign Isn't Fun - Difficulty/Seeking Advice

NOW, before you get out the pitchforks and string me up, hear me out.

I’ve been playing, I am in chapter 6 and have been having a lot of fun up until chapter 5. For one reason or another, I am now getting dumpstered on chapter 5 on by general enemies. The bosses, at large, both mini and main, are EASY. As I traverse the world however, the main mobs are absolutely obliterating me.

The campaign should not be this hard, right? I’m running my own little fun high block hammer throwing build starting as a Sentinel and mastery-ing void knight. I’ve been picking things that track with defense, and damage output. My skills are following as beneficial for me too in this build for the most part, but anytime I come up against a pack, I am having to panic heal.

I must be missing something because the campaign should be fun, it should be the pathway to learn and get to end game then realize “oh this won’t work in this context like this anymore”, but this shouldn’t be the case in the campaign.

I don’t mind a challenge, but I don’t appreciate suddenly having to consider making an entirely new character because if I respec, I lose all (really most) of the work I’ve put into the skills.

I could really use some advice from people who’ve been playing longer than I and just some general pointers. I want to finish the game with this character before making a new one.

What are your resistances like?
Having mega defence but no Resistance will hamper you.
Chapter 6 is the Imperial Era, which is mostly Necrotic damage, so try & boost your Necrotic resistance if it is too low.

Like the guy before said. thats around the time you need to be stacking res, health, health regen, armor all that. You glass cannoned yourself going to dps heavy

Hey thanks for the reply. This is what I’m looking like res wise:

70, 14, 7, 14, 9 52, 51 - in order on the character page left to right. Is 52 really that low???

yeah you need all your resistance to be around 50% at the start then get them all to 75%

Damn… Okay. That’s pretty wild for just the campaign but ok.

yeah it is. but it’s not hard to get them all to 50% most people run with a pally because the pally will make you poison immune and give your 35% to all resistances

there seems to be some rng to it.

my tanky pally got 100-0’d by a single soul blast in chapter 5

my squishy mage is having a walk in the park all the way to chapter 7 so far.

must be some variance in the mods some enemies get or something.

yeah. after chapter 5 if you dont have everything up to like 50. you can easily get 1 shot lol. i always run holy aura for the resistance increases and poison immunity. last pally i had in beta got to lvl 100 and was doing 200 darkness in the end game maps. But that was a hammerdin/smite pally

Except for Lagon (i killed him on fifth try) and Majasa (third try kill), which are probably the only two bosses in the campaign, I didn’t have the slightest problem running anywhere and killing everything in a few shots. I even started using healing potions on bosses. I even wish the game was more challenging in terms of the campaign, but optimally balanced so that you don’t have the chance to get totally hammered like in Darksouls

Act V: I’m starting to notice some pain myself not having the poison/necrotic resistance. I’m largely able to ignore it though due to the insane life leech i have on weapons + skills.

I think issue there is not your resitance or health but your damage. From screen what i seen you dont have so much. + I think you play it more like “i will survive every hit”… You need to stop step to everything. Dont stay in fire. Your stats are ok. Resistance 100%. Even Majasa is killable only with 25% resistance + 75 on psychical only

  • Everyone had problem with snakes and poison dmg from them in that roofs before end game and monoliths was easy as f after that

Sorry about that, I hit delete by accident. It wouldn’t let me repost or message you because the message was so similar to the post I just posted. -.-

So I don’t say this to be a dick. But your build is pretty scuffed. Nothing really synergizes. Things that should work gets negated by the build itself. Sort of all over the place, like my thoughts and my post.

I looked through your build. It would make sense that things you chose would be beneficial, but they don’t do anything for you. You have to pay attention to the wording. increased/more is not added. To utilize the Void Knight passives, you need the base void damage. Also you have to be careful with what the items do. Sometimes something small can break your build completely. Like your idols. See below.
Example: Take #% Fire Damage as #% Physical Damage can be a dangerous one. I just saw your resistance before quickly, didn’t look at what’s what. But if your Physical Resistance was lower than Fire, it would actually end up amplifying the damage you take.

I ran through the entire campaign with 90-100% Cold and Lightning Resistance. Everything else was 15-60%. I don’t think this is a you issue, it’s the build you are trying to put together.

So you’ve upped your resistances. 100/27/46/99/45/78/24.
I’m guessing you went Void Knight. Most will go Paladin and the ones going Void Knight either farmed enough or are experienced enough to pull it off. You’re lacking damage at this point. You should be able to bulldoze through and kill everything before it gets to you. Even if it does, you should be able to take a few hits, even with scuffed resistances.

If you look at Void Knight passives, it’s increased melee void damage. So it’s a 75% increased of the void damage you have, which is 0. So you used passive skill points into that tree and are just missing out on 75% damage.

I’d respec your Sentinel tree. Remove Overwhelm and Time and Faith.
Throw into Valiant Charge and Blade Master. Increased attack/cast speed + cooldown recovery for your movement skill.

It looks like you have 4 attacks on your hotkeys. Usually you want 1-2 attack skills, a defensive/support skill and always a movement skill. Movement skill is crucial, get through quicker and also escape/dodge.

I’m just assuming all of this from what I can see on your build.
Should utilize Rebuke and Shield Rush.

You also stacked a good amount of Critical Strike Chance with Critical Strike Multiplier on your. That’s all being ignored because you have a Singularity Idol equipped. Singularity state - “You cannot deal Critical Strikes”. Remove that. Because you don’t crit, you never utilize the 230+% multiplier. You’re at a huge damage loss.

One quick thing that should help out is replacing your boots. You can give up the Physical Resistance, you are overcapped. Will still be overcapped without them. Find a pair of boots that had 2 movement speed stats, atleast over 20%. Heoborean Boots are a good bet, they’ll have another implicit resistance. This should balance you out a little better. If you’re sticking with Void Knight, I don’t think you have to worry much about Void Resistance, I think that was in the passive tree when I made mine. Then find a new belt. It only gives you a couple potion slots. You benefit nothing from the belt itself as it’s increased damage to things not on your build and your Necrotic is also overcapped. You’ll still be capped it you remove it.

Have a look through your passives for more defensive options

I was having this same problem and saw your post. I looked at resists and all were over 30 but necrotic sitting at 6%. I got it to 31% and everything got better. Just wanted to say thank you.

Check out the maxroll build guides as they really hold your hand and it makes a world’s difference.

good deal

DPS is fine, stuff melts quickly. That screenshot damage stats doesn’t accurately represent my actual DPS (doesn’t incldue the bonus’s from Void Melee++ which is a massive part of my build). Got a good synergy  But thanks for your feedback.

Assuming you are playing that on Offline?

Yeah I was playing offline. Until late last night where a rogue steam sync yeeted my save and now I have switched to online. Talk about rough.
