Hey there EHG. 340+ hour player here.
I just learned of your relationship with Tencent (late, I know).
Regardless of the supposed retaining of control, you have made a mistake in selling them 20%.
1/5 of the company/game is owned by the chinese government under the guise of business. And, EHG will never divulge whether or not data access has been given to them. I’m willing to risk being mistaken over the range of damage a relationship with the chinese government entails. However, history shows that I am likely not mistaken.
You let the deceiving animal into your house and it will eat you.
Whomever advised, engaged and let this happen misled EHG. The perceived success in your relationship with Tencent is falsehood. Someone in your offices has to have known how invasive and self-centric they are. Why didn’t you speak up?
Pessimistic thinking leads to a money oriented situation where people compromised their integrity for greed. EHG will get zero more dollars from me and mine, guaranteed.
This game will go un-played by myself and my people for the time being.
I applaud your stance on this, and would like to inform you of other games where TenCent has an equal or higher financial stake:
Relative ownerships:
Path of Exile (GGG)
Valorant (Riot)
Fortnite (Epic Games)
League of Legends (Riot)
any Gears of War game (Epic Games)
Games with more absolute investments:
Dark Souls (FromSoftware)
Elden Ring (FromSoftware)
Max Payne, Alan Wake or Control series (Remedy Entertainment)
PUBG (Krafton)
anything Ubisoft
anything Paradox Interactive (Stellaris, Cities: Skylines, Vimpire, Age of Wonders, Pillars of Eternity,…)
Oh, and anything Activision, like Diablo 4, Overwatch or Call of Duty series.
I’ld also like to point out that in case of these last ones, I could find no information as to their voting rights, where as in EHG’s investment, Mike has clearly stated it’s a financial part only.
And a significant part of the products the average person consumes daily have been made in China, and therefore consuming them means supporting the Chinese government, be it directly or indirectly (tax money).
