Hi everyone, for starters i’m playing my first character and it’s lvl 80 Lich with Harvest Necrotic Crit as a main skill so please keep that in mind i guess.
I had a hard time to decide if i wanted to stay on the 2 handed sword with crilt mult or switch on the equivalent 1 handed sword with a good off hand. In the end i switched to a 1 handed sword with offhand just to be able to use the ward it is generating for me.
With that said, i had to figure it out by feeling because the actual tooltip was way worse but the feeling in game (especially agains’t bosses) was way better and i think there is a really easy fix to that.
Since you have a Dummy to train on, we know it shows damage from hits but i think something that would be really cool is to show the actuall single target DPS just above the dummy. That way you don’t need any fancy mathematics to figure out the dps in tooltip and people get a direct feedback from the dummy. You could go even further and add a customization menu to add resistance to the monster or other damage mitigation mechanics like armor and endurance (not sure if monsters have endurance) and even even further by having a way to add as many dummys as we want if our dps depends on how many monster we hit/kill.
I don’t know if it was already suggested or if it was already planed and if it is the case i’m sorry in advance.
Tool tip dps usually is very accurate if you compare different gear pieces.
Would be interesting to know what items did you compare exactly?
Tooltip dps also takes ailments into account, maybe the new sword did have more hit dmg but no ailments, so it feels like you deal less bursty dmg.
Also stuff like attacks/sec can heavily change dps depending on how much ailments and shred you have.
I would love a more detailed dps meter that logs your damage over a certain time and is able to show both damage types alongside damage sources on a nice timeline graph.
But for the sake of not putting too much work into it when other things right now probably take priority, just have the target dummy lose health until it resets at 1 HP. This would make it far easier to estimate whether your dps has gone up or down after.
Whilst a bit more work, a training room with multiple dummies where some are clumped together and like you mentioned with different resistances (could just be an average of regular/rare/boss types) would be very useful.
I’m using Harvest with Reaper Form, Aura Of Decay in shred armor mode, Bone Curse and Death seal.
I’m mostly focusing on critical strike and I’m also focusing on Armor Shred/ Necrotic Shred (i’m converting all physical into necrotic) and my previous sword didn’t have 104% chance to shred armour per hit and didn’t have as much attack speed (oobviously) which gives me way more damage agains’t bosses mainly.
The problem is that all those stacks of shred don’t show in the tooltip and the extra critical strike from hitting cursed enemies don’t feel like they are showing either. That’s why i’m suggesting to show a dps metter above the dummy that way it takes everything in condiseration without having to create a complex formula … we could call it the Dummy DPS
I am generally not against a more precise damage comparison.
But all of the stuff you mentioned (except targets being cursed) should make it into the dps calculation. But the being cursed stuff should not matter. since that is not considered with both weapons.
In my experience the Tooltip DPS is very meaningful.
Also there is no thing such as extra crit vs cursed targets with your setup.
It’s not global increased crit chance agains’t cursed enemies but rather global increased crit chance when i’ve hit a cursed enemy recently (which is essentially the same) (Learned Weakness in the Harvest tree)
It’s not really the same, but yes i know what you mean.
But this will not make a difference for your gear comparision anyway, unless the weapons ahve different base crits as prefix.
This will not increase your tooltip dps, since it’s conditional.
But when the buff is up, it should update your tooltip dps.
If that is not the case, you are probably already at 100% crit chance, so the additional crit does nto grant you any additional damage.
Blockquote That’s why i’m suggesting to show a dps metter above the dummy that way it takes everything in condiseration without having to create a complex formula … we could call it the Dummy DPS
Dummies are great way to test damage but if you’re looking for bigger damage while dual wielding and swapping weapons left to right it does not increase damage that significant amount but there would be damage increase which is hard to notice on dummy.
I meant to quote that comment, not particularly targeted to post itself. Apologies for that. Additionally, basic attack damage do change for similar DPS weapons. I remember seeing 5% change which i assume also corresponds to skill DPS. Please correct me if I’m wrong
