Would like some feedback and assistance understanding Stun. I’m working on a stun build and am curious about a few things. I haven’t seen any real stun builds so not sure if that’s because stun isn’t effective enough to build around. There are a number of Uniques and Set items to push this but mobs can also have stun avoidance.
Is Stun really worth it? That’s my main question. What’s the best you can do? I currently have 383% Increased Stun Chance and 713% Increased Melee Stun Chance. I’m working towards lvl 65 Lagon to test on boss.
I’ve already noticed that mobs don’t always get stunned, almost always with my main attack, but with such a high stun chance would think it would be better.
I noticed that Increased Stun Duration isn’t reflected in the character sheet also but that’s another thing.
There was a build a while back (channelled lightning Elemental Nova from memory) that was chain stunning monolith bosses (Rahyeh at the very least) but I don’t think the devs really want that (or perma-freezing) to be a thing. I think @KissingAiur tried for a Sentinel stun character as well.
Thanks Llama. I was afraid I’d hear something like that. I’m not looking for a perma-stun, just a highly effective one. If bosses or even regular mobs can be immune or nearly immune to stun then the stun mechanic is nearly useless.
I’d like to see it so that stun is possible but bosses’ stun duration would be shorter and their chances to stun greatly reduced but still possible.
I’ve been using my FG to try the build.
Might be similar to freeze in my other post, but some boss skills can’t be interrupted by ailments. So, it also reduce usefulness of those ailments further
I don’t like the current implementation of stuns that much. It’s too much reliant on rng. Also stuns aren’t really stuns. I’d rather call it staggering effect because of its ultra short duration.
Stun for me is when I can take an enemy out if the fight for 2 seconds. What I the standard duration? 0.4 seconds, I think.
You can build for stun and get a really high stun chance. Just the stun chance is dependant on the enemies max hp. So higher level enemies are less likely to be stunned. And because we never know the enemies hp, we cannot calculate the real stun chance.
I see it as kind of a secondary defensive mechanic that can be important in certain situations where the sum of mini stuns on enemies will reduce the overall damage taken by an amount that has an impact.
I’m more a fan of stun as a utility skill. Like it is used with shield bash. There you have a 100% stun chance you can use situational. Forge Strike also has a high stun chance, but again this isn’t reliable and the duration is short.
But I also have to admit that I never went balls to the wall for stun chance. I started a 2h blunt weapon Sentinel but did not go that far. The attack speed was just too slow so it wasn’t that much fun compared to other characters. Maybe with all the base weapon type rework I’ll give it another try.
Thanks, my experience so far looks to agree with your assessment. I have a really high stun chance as you can see above, but even normal mobs only get “stunned” approximately 65-75% of the time from what I can tell.
I’m using Sunforged Carass, Sunforged Greathelm, The Bear’s Last Fury golved, and the Unique Bludgeon as part of this to give me the most Stun chance possible, along with some idols. I’m using Forge Strike as my main attack at the moment but may change that.
As an update, the battle against Lagon was meh. Couldn’t stun him even once. I know he can be frozen as I’ve done that on other characters, but he must be immune to stun.
That’s interesting for me. I must admit that, after reading carefully the description of stun, I totally put it aside and never built anything around it. To me it looks like a nice feature to add to a build, but not the core component of a build.
But as long as you don’t invest into it to a certain point, it is not very reliable at all. So adding a bit of stun chance on an affix slot you don’t know what else to put in, won’t grand you great benefits.
For the most part the mobs are dead before they get stunned. Building into stun so much though has prevented me from higher DPS than I would like, it causes slower kills on higher HP mobs, which still rarely get stunned.
