The first hours of the playthrough were great on the Deck, maintaining solid 60fps most of the time. Later in the game now (level 40ish) performance is starting to tank, getting to single digit frames sometimes.
It would be great to see EHG addressing the Deck support in the future, whilst implementing FSR support (which should’ve been implemented already with 1.0 imo).
Also, would any of my fellow community/forum members help in sharing your settings to play the game on the deck? Currently I’m running everything on low or very low, 1200x800. Steam Deck oled.
EHG could still give it some love tho.
I saw on Reddit that they wouldn’t even test the game on the Deck and they were not looking into it. The game has gold compatibility with Proton, and it’s fully functional on the Deck. The optimization is not good tho. It’s a shame given that D4 runs mostly on the deck.
My bet is that FSR would do the trick for most of the problems found on the deck with this game.
I’m just addressing this because sometimes I spend the night at my girlfriend’s place and I bring the deck with me. Being away from my computer and still being able to play my games is awesome, and I’d love to be able to play LE on the deck flawlessly too if possible.
I’ve been playing offline-mode only and have been pleasantly surprised at how well LE runs on the Deck, consdering it’s not officially supported yet.
It’s not perfect - inventory management is doable, but a bit of a pain. I doubt there’s any way around that considering how large the tabs are. Crafting is also a bit of a pain. But doable.
I’ve been running mostly dungeons and monoliths and saving most other activities for the PC. The Deck seems fine for those. I actually think LE runs better on my deck than PoE does.
For games like LE and PoE, I think the Deck will always be more of a complement to the PC experience, rather than a replacement. For a game like D4, which has much simpler systems and is designed so that it can be played as a console-only game, the Deck can be a pure PC replacement.
While I’ve been disappointed in D4 as a PC game, as someone who also plays on the Deck and console, I can understand some of their design decisions. It runs smoothly on any platform. Because of their added depth, I really don’t think the same can be said of LE and PoE. They’ll always be PC-first games and we’ll likely have to live with compromises.
EDIT: I should add that some builds don’t work well on the Deck. For example, Flame Wraiths, which rely on you targeting your pets to leech life and mana. On the PC it’s easy to summon all your Wraiths in one spot and then drop a leech under them. On the Deck, I haven’t been able to target my Wraith casting very well and if I do manage to leech from them, it’s more by fluke than intentional targetting. That’s a controller versus mouse issue and again I’m not sure there’s an easy fix.
Hey just as a feedback - I tried it out and MAN IT WORKS LIKE A CHARM!
Get with Decky Loader the Plugin Wine Cellar and download GE Proton 8.32 - then ingame you set the resolution to 720p and settings to low (you can play around later with the detailled settings) then open up the Steam Deck Power settings via the three dots button, activate game specific settings:
45hz fixed
GPU frequenzy set fix to 1200
FSR activated on automatic
FSR 5
then activate overlay statistic to max level and be sure that FSR is ON and green there, if not you may have to change to windows mode or borderless.
and I quickly checked in an area with more mobs (Area lvl 31) and man buttersmooth 45fps without drops, if I don’t activate GPU limit it drops frequently - guess the power distribution is not optimal from deck with standard settings.
By the way I play a void knight sentinel online and offline a necromancer and everything works buttersmooth. The Story with “you can’t aim with controller as it’s always max distance” yeah sure, but is there working solution that is better in any other games? I love how they did it and it’s 100times better experience for me even on Steam Deck than Diablo ever was.
Thank you EHG for this absolute Gem!
Can’t wait to play more!
I’ve been playing on SD for quite a long time and I must say that it works well, although there is a problem with RAM leakage when you play monoliths - the game’s RAM usage reaches 14GB and the steam deck freezes.
I hope that EHG will solve this memory leak problem
directx 12+ fsr 3 would solve lots of performance issues
edit: game runs like shit on some zones doesnt matter what kinda pc you have Steam Hardware & Software Survey on january 93% dx 12 gpus
This works. I was using proton experimental, crashing after a few minutes. Proton ge was the same. I added the above settings and have not crashed once.
Only really been playing the start “early” 1-20 and endgame / monolith on the deck, that have been running pretty fine with medium settings haven’t really felt any lag / frame drops.
