- Is Static Orb good for leveling?
- Is Static Orb good in the end game?
- What is the performance difference for leveling between Static Orb and Glacier?
- What is the performance difference between Static Orb and Glacier in the end game?
Please donât do that. It is an unhelpful response. If I could arrive at the answer by myself by just using the site then I would not have asked the questions.
If you donât want to help, donât disturb.
Statics orb have a very good damage.
And good clear speed, I think you have to use other skill as primary, because itâs a self cast spell. So you donât have to worry about that.

Youâll be fine with either. SO may have an edge in end game on account of the nide that gives more damage based on mana, but both are very good.
And given that you can now respec everything including mastery, you dont need to worry about it. Itâs a game, not a job.
Iâm really not sure what that means. Thereâs even an item that casts SO for you on evade so you can just zoom zoom through zones evading from time to time to nuke the screen.
Perhaps, but itâs an understandable response born from the frustration of people treating games like jobs (whatâs the fastest/best/most efficient) without wantimg to try stuff out for yourself.
If SO was âbetterâ but you preferred Glacier, which would you play?
Just ignore the trolls.

Static Orb is pretty good for leveling if you spec into Orbital Fulmination. Directly casting it might be an issue, because it costs a lot of mana. It can be partially solved with Fusion Blast and Atomic Manipulation + using Lightning Blast to reclaim some of the manacost back.
-
Yes, it was used to delete bosses in seconds. Thatâs getting nerfed, but even nerfed Static Orb remains a high DPS spell. You still need to solve the mana issue.
-
Glacier is even higher mana cost spell than Static Orb, relies on Crits to give you mana back (which you donât have much during leveling), so youâll often find yourself stuck in place using Focus or Mana Strike to get your mana back.
They deal about the same damage until you get Scatter Blast in Static Orb, then Static Orb wins.
Iâd recommend having a second skill that costs 0 mana to fill in while youâre regenerating mana, Lightning Blast or Fireball. -
IMO Static Orb wins by a landslide, even after the nerfs. But as a Sorcerer, you should ideally use both. Get very high mana pool, spend it with Static Orbs and refill it back with Glacier.
Remember, you need high max mana and high spell crit, otherwise it wonât work, because Glacierâs Critical Rejuvenation recovers 1% of your max mana up to 10 times per second on crit.
Itâs a lot like asking âhow long is a string?â

Answers may vary.
It doesnât seem like a good use of the forums, in my opinion.
Is it good?
How does it compare to another skill?
I linked the website by which you could have clicked to see how many builds use static orb and glacier - its the type of info you can collect with 5 minutes of play, or by a quick look at the build websites.
This is a forum. âDo not disturbâ is not an option here.
Disagree.
No one knows everything, even if the question is stupid, who posted that has to be a chance of a response.
Even you, in your firsts plays did something stupid.
Whoa now, thereâs no need to call the OP, or I stupid⌠Thatâs a bit rude.
I was answering the question in my own way.
Thank you for the replies everyone.
Thank for the info. I agree. However, no one stated overtly or insinuated that the game was a job. The devs said in one of the videos that they would not make every skill/build equal to every other skill/build, which means there is going to differences in performance. Some skills/builds will be better than others for specific activities such as leveling, boss farming, speed farming, etc. Some builds are meant for the end game because they donât function well (or at all) without a deep investment in gear, skill points, or passives thus making them poor choices for leveling. So, my response had nothing to do with treating a game like a job. Iâm just seeking info⌠from others who may be much more versed in the gameâs mechanics than I am, which would help me along my way of deciding what I want to play and in which order.
Keep in mind that season 2 isnât out yet so I canât try it (the season 2 state of the game) out for myself and I canât respect mastery yet either. Please donât assume that there was laziness on my part. To answerâŚ
The answer depends on my goals. I generally play what I find to be fun to me. However, if I want to beat the new season 2 uber end game boss without spending 40 minutes per attempt (as an example) then that goal will heavily influence my choice. It will influence what class I choose to start with. I was trying out the Maxroll mage leveling guide (yes, it is designed around patch 1.2). The Glacier playstyle isnât very fun. Wacking stuff with a staff and low attack speed to recover mana, or being dependent on channeling Focus every 3rd or 4th Glacier cast, isnât very appealing. I donât think Iâve come across a leveling guide that centers around static orb. In following, the Maxroll guide I choose the Spellblade mastery. If I want to test Static Orb then I:
- have to deviate from the guide (I still need more levels/passive points to allow for that)
- make another mage and go on an experiment adventure into the Sorc mastery and Static Orb.
@Psojed: Thank you for the info.
Yep. Iâm reliving that experience now in a test run of the Maxroll mage level guide.
I think you are attempting to read more into the question than was asked. Take a look at @Psojedâs response. Again, if the answers to my questions could be immediately and obviously derived by reading info from the lastepochtools site, then I would not have posed the questions. Obviously, skill performance differences arenât easily deduced just by reading the site. You come across as though you have much more experience with the gameâs mechanics than I do, thus your experience, as is the experience of everyone who replied to my questions, are quite valuable. Querying those with experience is a great use of the forum. If folks with a wealth of knowledge are uninterested in sharing that knowledge there would be a smaller reason for them to participate in the forum, which might even negate the existence of the forum site.
The number of builds doesnât answer my questions. The number of builds doesnât express performance differences in the skills by themselves or in the contexts that I included. You are severely underestimating the time investment to arrive at answers to my questions especially at the end game. Time spend:
- Leveling to 70-80
- farming monoliths for experience and gear
- farming favor (CoF) or farming gold (MG)
- boss farming
- dungeon runs for legendary crafting
⌠isnât 5 minutes of play. Season 2 hasnât started yet, patch 1.2 isnât live, and mastery respects arenât available. Try removing your opinions/assumptions before responding to questions. Your responses are leaning in the trolling direction whether it was intentional or not. Even if you thought my questions were a poor use of the forum, your response didnât do any better, hence unhelpful.
Certain individuals (Abom, for example), most definitely does âtreat it like a jobâ (for want of a better phrase) & denigrate or outright ignore/block people who donât.
Fair, apologies if it came across that way.
I donât know who Abom is. No harm and no foul. I have no beef with anyone.
I would say Static Orb is great for end game boss killing, and only so/ so for leveling due to the high mana cost. Youâd probably be best using frost claw as your leveling/ monolith main skill, with the occasional Static Orb pop for high HP mobs/ sub bosses. Static orb doesnât really take off damage wise unless you have a huge mana pool and the right nodes on itâs tree.
How long is a piece of string?
