Static Orb instantly explodes upon casting, as if it hits an obstacle inside shallow water (works fine on land) in Ritual Lake monoliths and while fighting Heorot in his boss monolith. My Static orb doesn’t have any nodes that affect travel distance, and character is in offline mode.
This could be one of the issues with certain maps and very specific locations in maps that obstruct ranged skills (throwing, arrows, spells etc). They usually require the devs to check the exact position on the map to see if there is something “in the way” and manually edit the maps to fix them - they have fixed plenty of such issues before.
The best way to report these is with a screenshot of the exact place you are standing (with direction of the skill) that shows the map name and mini map. (and obviously a description of the skill you are using).
It is literally any body of water in Ritual Lake, every meter and every pixel of it, which is 70% of the monolith layout. The same goes for Heorot boss arena. Static orb that usually offscreens stuff, explodes right after casting wherever you stand.

Thats why I said “could be” - the devs have to test and replicate issues like this so that they can trace the bugs correctly so the more specific info they get the easier it will be for them to find and fix.
Maybe its specific to Static Orb, maybe its specific to map design levels, maybe its particle effects in water based maps interacting, maybe its something else entirely.
All I can say is that there have been many similar bug reports in the past and while some have been skill issues just as many have been map issues.
Had the same Bug too, many times. One of the reasons i havent pushed my Sorc to 100 yet, happens so many times. Has something to do with spamming other abilities etc… Happend to me 90% of time after Port, you have to debug it by spamming all abilities with Orb and pray you dont need 2min till it works again.
Seems like this is not only a problem with Static Orb. Another player is experiencing a similar issue with the Rogue Shuriken skill over water in Ritual Lakes.
Just adding my voice, dam annoying for Static orb mage. Note lighting blast works just fine.
If I had to guess it either has to due with z height or the water texture. As it is once your in the pools it’s impossible to orb anywhere. However once your on the ridges you can orb down into the pools just fine.
(So yes if needed you can kite to a ridge and kill things however it is very annoying)
Just to piggy back to say my wife noticed a problem with one of her marksman skills as well. A bow based skill but I forget which one. I think it may be puncture but it was around certain raised textures. I have had this same problem with my static orb sorc
