As to why:
The stash-tab system in terms of acquisition was properly functioning the whole time. EHG could’ve simply kept it ‘as is’ and left it with that. There was absolutely no issue with it in the first place.
What happened is that people requested it to be cost-reduced as CoF causes you to acquire a lot of moderately useful stuff and with the increased drop-rate from it the increases in stash tabs weren’t keeping up.
So EHG went along and did it since A) it’s quick to do and B) has no repercussions.
So no, it was not a ‘miscalculation’ as you say there, it was a favor from the devs towards the players.
They could’ve just left it and that would’ve been fine too. They didn’t. Not every change which eases things is a mistake/miscalculation/whatever before and that’s extremely important to understand.
And here’s the reasoning why, imagining I would be the one responsible in EHG to go along and wave the change through, thinking I’ll do people a favor:
‘Oh, so I did something nice for them and now they make extra demands? Even saying it was our mistake in the first place? Well… that’s the last time I’ll do something like that if they’re ungrateful F’s’
If something is changed which is not broken and instead made even better then you give thanks and nothing else, that’s it.
You can nicely ask for extra things related to a change which make sense. This is what OP did and it did not warrant any talk-downs
But contrary what you insinuate there is something which deserves a verbal slap on the wrist, because it’s a notion which will actively cause devs to just stop doing it in the first place.
That’s the major ‘uncalled for’ thing here, right after those talking down on OP.
Don’t get me wrong. I wouldn’t mind a refund either, but it’s entirely goodwill from the side of the devs to do it, not a single person here is entitled to it and should ever be though. That’s a really vast and important difference.
In most cases, Costco will refund the difference if they discount an item within 30 days of purchase. Many other retailers have similar policies. Being entitled has nothing to do with this. It’s just a matter of being aware of store policies. If you don’t ask, you won’t get.
First of all… that’s nothing which most countries have, and for a good reason actually as well as it causes a precedence which leads to exact that train of thought. ‘But others do it as well! It must be the standard practice then!’ No, it’s not and it actually never should be. You valued the product bought in your mind and accepted to buy it at that price… why should it be less valuable to you after acquiring it in the first place? You made a deal, both sides were happy and now you wanna go back on it.
Secondly, it’s not something they need to do. It’s 100% goodwill from their side.
So why are they doing it? To make you come back, to tie you closer to their store in comparison to others. They’re retail, and retail of mediocre products overall, nothing high quality.
Here we have a high-quality game which has a single proper competitor in the whole industry. They don’t need to jump through hoops to make you stay, if the gameplay itself doesn’t then it’s not worth to try and keep you with little extras.
You are welcome to disagree but your word isn’t the word of god (or EHG) and therefor isn’t any more right. Devs don’t just do “favors” for players for no reason. They would in fact have to agree with the sentiment and if it’s something they agree with then it was a miscalculation because they obviously didn’t consider how the stash tab cost would impact the CoF reward structure. Maybe it’s something they were aware of and on the fence about. Who knows to what degree but who cares…that isn’t the point.
First of all, if it was only to “help” CoF, they wouldn’t lower stash tab prices, since that maintains the “unbalance” between factions. MG got the discount as well.
Maybe that’s how it happens in in US retail stores, it’s not how it happens in most of the world. Not to mention that my steam example still applies: when steam inevitably makes a sale and sells LE for half-price, will you request a refund?
If you buy an Iphone for 1k, will you ask Apple for a refund when it only costs 500 in a few months?
If you buy a car and a few years later it has a lower market price, do you ask for a refund?
It’s a very entitled (and now that I think about it, also a very american) request. It’s true, it was done quite respectfully and I shouldn’t have called him Karen, but it was baffling that the request was done in the first place.
Another aspect it will maybe be hard to develop:) - I’am developer too
This game has a lot to be improved, a lot of small bugs, online issues, memory leaks/poor performance on high end PC - i wish EHG will spend they time to do this, not implementing stupid refund:)
I dont really care. Dont know why people are concerned about gold, but I personally have more than enough gold for stash tabs and other uses. I dont think I could run out of gold other than opening empty stash tabs i have no need for (yet, at least) or running ligthless arbor many times.
I think so too. And even if I did pay it, it wouldn’t be an iPhone either, but that’s another matter entirely
I wasn’t trying to insult americans, so I apologize if it came across that way. I was simply pointing out that it’s an american type of mentality. You know, like when you’re in a Starbucks and spill a hot coffee over you. Unlike the rest of the world, the american mentality is to sue Starbucks (and, quite often, win).
Likewise, feeling entitled to refunds in these situations. My graphics card cost 400€ or 500€ when I bought it, and I’m pretty sure it’s around 100 something if it’s even being sold at all. I never expect to get a refund. I paid the price that was available at the time and I used it since.
It would only make sense to refund stash tabs gold if they were allowed to delete those tabs when they did.
Eh, I’m American and I think both of those are stupid (refund and litigation mentalities). Not all Americans shrug off personal accountability; Only they are generally too occupied going about their days, not crying in the media about how hard they have it – while sipping a coffee at Starbucks, typing away on their new 1200$ smartphone and not having any other cares in the world.
I don’t disagree with you. I’m not even saying that’s the reason they did it. I was just responding to some other comments. My broad point was just that it was some sort of miscalculation on their part that they felt needed adjustment.
Thanks, Sinven! I wish for you: the highest stat rolls on all of your drops.
Now let’s discuss the merits of “wishing”. Is wishing simply entitlement? Are genies real? Can one in fact wish upon a star, and if so, is CoF a monopoly of wishes? Thereby contributing to Jiminy Cricket erasure, ergo the dismantling of humanity’s conscience? We need answers!!!
They need to add a 50% fee on AH purchases, because now I feel pressured to join MG first, to make tons of gold, before switching over to CoF… just so I can buy stash tabs.
It’s 29384129048091238091274182347082349 times worse than the pressure I felt to farm Arena keys for 50 years to buy stash tabs, I can assure you. My PTSD counsellor will be sending you a bill EHG!
I do apologize for way I addressed you. This was mostly because of 2 things: I had misread your post as sort of demanding (which is my bad) and I found if baffling that anyone thought this was a legitimate request.
