Start now or wait for 1.0?

Hello all,

Should I wait until 1.0 is released or can I start now?
I read things about “legacy character” but i don’t know what is it exactly…

Thx,

There are basically 2 realms:
-There’s the legacy realm, which is equivalent to standard in PoE or eternal in D4. This is a realm that has no resets of any kind. Characters there have years to be worked on.
-Then there’s the cycle realm, which is equivalent to leagues in PoE or seasons in D4. This realm starts fresh every few months, meaning you don’t have any resources, gear in stash, etc. When the cycle ends, your characters get moved to the legacy realm where they become just like any other character here.

You can start playing now, if you want, and your characters will automatically become part of the legacy realm on 1.0 launch. At 1.0 launch you can decide to continue playing in legacy or to start new characters for the cycle. Although, at least for now, there are no real differences between the 2 realms other than leaderboards for arena.

I’d say start now. You can at the very least learn the basic game systems and get a feel for what you wanna do when the cycle releases. Or, if you decide not to join the cycle, you already have a character to continue playing in Legacy. Win win!

Its worth mentioning that new cycle content will also go live on standard when a cycle goes live, unlike poe or d4. Cycle characters exist purely for a fresh economy and ladder.

I say play now. Its a great time and one of the things about ARPG’s is starting with a new league anyway.

Whatever you decide to do, do not let ‘anything’ in 0.9.2 deter your from staying. There are going to be a lot of changes between now and the 1.0 drop because of all the stuff they’re doing so chances are if there are some bugs or glitches that bother you in 0.9.2 they’re likely either known and getting looked at for 1.0 or going to be resolved by the time 1.0 drops.

I’ve already got hundreds of hours in the game, and I’ve barely touched it for months because I’m waiting for 1.0. I’d just wait for release honestly. We’re almost there.

wait1.0

Just wait for 1.0, no point in starting a character right now unless you’re desperate to play, though the game releases fully in a month, so you could always take someone out for a test run. But, I wouldn’t want to do it because I don’t want to get burnt out before I make my 100th necro, haha.

It might be worth starting now just to learn the base mechanics and be ready to blast 1.0. Could even just blast the story mode once. Will save you a few hours likely at launch.

My thought is that you bought it and can still enjoy it, then learn a lot and enjoy the launch. So, why wait? Jump in and have fun! :sunglasses:

My opinion is that you should start playing now. You have a month to play at your leisure and, most importantly, to learn the important features in the game, like making filters, crafting, etc.
Then, when 1.0 launches, you can either join the cycle and start anew, or keep playing legacy either with that character or with a new one (I’d advise a new one for one of the 2 new masteries that will be arriving).

Well remember, for them, all of the masteries are new, not just the 2 new ones for us vets.

Having played for a long time and with also a long pause now, I’m waiting for release. Close enough to wait and not try starting anything.

Anyway, if you are completely new player, its worth starting now, you will be playing characters, testing skills, completing content until release.

If you have played before, I would wait.

I am a vet, you know.

Yes, all of them are new, but the newer classes are kinda more fun, in the way they are constructed. I bought LE shortly after 0.9.2, so Runemaster was the new class. Even though I tried others first (I always go for necro first in every game ) I could see that runemaster was different.

I expect that the older classes will eventually be rebalanced and maybe some of the skills/skill trees retweaked and things will be more evenly distributed, but the feeling I got as a new player was that Runemaster got all the fun toys to play with (no kink shaming).

Hello.

I have a similar question. But I can’t find the information. I bought the game and I want to start playing right away. I want to play in standard, in version 1.0 I want to be in the Circle of fortune (SSF) and if possible be able to change items between my characters.
How do I create a character? Online or offline? With “Character found” toggled on or off?

Hi, it is totally up to you. All the work you put in right now will be there when 1.0 comes out. However, there will be a “seasonal character”. The factions are not out until 1.0 . The “seasonal character” and the character will no be able to share items until the next “season”. If the character is offline it will not be able to share with the online character.

As long as your other characters are also CoF, you can use items between them.

This is up to you. When 1.0 hits, offline and online will be the same, except for online only features like chat, trade, shop, etc. You can’t use MTX offline, at least for now.
Pre-1.0 it seems that the offline client is more stable and has less bugs, but you can’t bring offline characters to online, so if you later want to join trade or group with people, you’ll have to make a new character.

There will be 2 “SSF” modes in LE: Character found and account found. The difference between them is that Character found starts completely fresh, with nothing in the stash and can’t transfer things to/from your other characters. Account found is the same except you can transfer stuff via the stash.
Both modes will lock you out of trading and grouping, but both modes should work fine both online and offline.

Other than that, it’s up to your preference, really. If you’re going for one of the SSF modes, playing online won’t give you many benefits, other than cosmetics and chat.

EDIT: to clarify: account found can transfer items via the stash but only for other character found characters. So a character found toon can’t interact with your other characters, account found toons can transfer stuff between them but not with character found or “regular” ones.

It would be good to start now just to get the feel of the game & learn the basics. That way when the game launches, you have some idea of what you want to do.
