I was trying to make a post with a whole bunch of spelling/grammatical errors that are currently in the game and it got me thinking that there is so many different ways you guys are addressing things I want to ask if there is a company wide philosophy on how you guys want to actually write things.
Here are a few issues that I see
Some attributes are capitalized others are not. strength or Strength.
There are some tooltips that say + and others that just say nothing.
Relentless on sentinel states
Increased Damage: 5% per point
Stun Avoidance: +20 per point.
Do you guys want to have all positive modifiers have a + before the number (Please say yes) Or do you want no +.
Glancing blow when you hold alt over it says âGlancing blows deal 35% less damageâ Glancing blow does 0 damage this should be reworded. âWhen receiving a glancing blow you take 35% less damageâ
In the rogue Shuriken skill the point Abrasive Arsenal says âPhysical Res Shred Chanceâ This is made by someone who knows the game and understands what âresâ means. This should probably be resistance here.
The + and the capitalization are probably what I am most confused about and what your guys opinions are. I was making a list and had over 100 issues in just the sentinel with incorrect and or different tooltips and I was thinking to myself I donât know if they are incorrect because I donât know EHG official stance on what they want their spelling/grammar on tooltips to look like. If I can get a confirmation on how you guys want to actually set up your tooltips I would be more than happy to go through them and figure out all the incorrect tooltips in the game.
There is also tooltips that I believe could be worded differently to better reflect what you are trying to say but that is just the 5th grade teacher in me wanting to help.
Shadow daggers says "Upon reaching 4 stacks of Shadow Daggers, The Daggers plunge into the target,
It would sound better if you wrote âWhen an enemy reaches 4 stacks of Shadow Daggers, the daggers (No capitilization here) plunge into the enemy.â
The reason I believe the first one is incorrect is because it leaves the impression that I can have 3 different enemies with a dagger and on the 4th stack of shadow dagger it would plunge. By putting the âenemyâ in the description it reinforces the fact that the individual enemy needs the 4 stacks not just upon reaching 4 stacks total. Anywho this is all nitpicky and I dont even know if you want this type of input at all anyway.
In general I think the devs are trying for brevity and clarity while explaining a thing.
It looks as though if the modifier is flat (ie, the stun in Relentless) then itâll be more likely to have a +, but if itâs % damage then it wonât. Having said that, the buffs on Blademaster donât work like thatâŚ
Since Glancing Blow is an effect that is applied to a hit you take, I think saying âGlancing blowsâŚâ is ok, itâs shorter & easier to understand.
It probably depends on the context, there are some stats that are similar but the + denotes a different stat. Do you have an examples?
I would assume itâs capitalised because itâs a name.
Consistency is desirable, but the guys doing the tooltips may not be native English speakers. They do try & improve grammatical issues but they may not be top priority.
With sentinel there is Flash of Brilliance which states âHealth: +150â then right above it is Holy symbol which states âHealth: 49â
Holy Symbol also states âNecrotic Resistance: +49%â Whereas defiance states âElemental Resistance: 2% per pointâ
I just want to know what their overall desire is for their tooltips.
If daggers was a name then you would have to put âShadow Daggersâ not just daggers. Unless they want to abbreviate names then yes Daggers would be capitalized, but I would highly recommend not abbreviating names in tooltips for a video game.
I just went and asked my wife who does very little gaming but farming sims and asked her âGlancing blows deals 35% less damageâ and she was confused with it as well. So I guess that is a personal thing which since you are familiar with the game understand but from an outsider it might confused. Its a lot like the Res example. I know what Res means but in reality that should probably not be abbreviated.
I am cool with however the Devâs decide to word things in their game but I think it does need to have consistency. I also understand there are some non-native speakers and that is why I would love to help them out with some tooltips but I need to know what their overall goal is and then ill go through every single word in the game
