The animations for two handed swords on the mage are absolutely awesome, and I think spellblade with a two-handed sword is a really cool concept, but there is basically no reason to use one, even on a spellblade.
Adding and scaling the one-handed sword spellblade prefix to two-handed swords I think would be really cool, adding a higher attack speed alternative to staves and breathing new life into uniques like battlemage’s endeavor.
+spell damage for a spellblade is rather niche isn’t it? Zero spell tags on the spellblade skills make the stat redundant in my opinion. Well I maybe missed something because i haven’t played Spellblade for real in a long time.
Well there is actually quite a few interesting ways to attack and use spells at the same time.
Mana strike can do it, spark charges are spells, surge can cast lightning blast AND blow up static.
You can make flame reave shoot fireballs etc etc.
But none of these options are utilized because building hybrid attack/caster is big stinky.
Lots of the spell proc weapons happen to be two handed as well, Alluvion and battle mages endeavor.
So your not strictly wrong, but its not like the devs didnt try. I think having two handers have more options for spellblading as an archetype and just more general support for it would really make alot of the spellblade stuff make more sense.
Earlier days you had the tandem nodes when you cast a spell your next melee attack… and the other way arround. I don’t think the devs realy try for real, they might in the future, but building hybrid makes the melee crap and spell dmg not worthwhile.
