Coming from path of exile have 15k hours in PoE i thought its gonna be easy get into this game but i guess i was wrong becuz i dont get it how some things work for example right now im doing lich build my spirit plague skill is doing necrotic dot damage so when i equip amulet wich gives +3 lighting spell damage it shows my spirit plague is doing bigger dot dps but does it actually increase its damage? for example in path of exile if you play chaos dot based skill then flat elemental damage is not gonna increase your dot dps but idk if same applies here?
Flat damage gets added to DoT spells at a set rate, if you hold alt it will say something like “Added damage is added at 200% to the damage over time”
So you can actually deal some lightning damage with your spirit plague. most flat damage in the game is adaptive for spells, but in some cases it is a specific damage type. That specific part of your dps is scaling with %increases to lightning damage instead of necrotic.
Yes, adding flat spell damage will make your spell do more damage. In your specific case, you’d get a lot more benefit from adding flat necrotic spall damage or adaptive spell damage (since this would be converted to necrotic by the skill tags) since you’re likely to have more % necrotic damage than you would have % lightning damage (though if you only had % spell damage, it wouldn’t matter what element the flat damage was).
TLDR, it does work in a similar way to PoE, you ideally want the element of the flat added damage to match that of the % increased damage modifiers you have to get the most bang for your buck. But any flat spell damage will make your spell do more damage.
oh okay good to know
