it says “40% of added melee damage on weapons is also gained as added spell damage”. my weapon has a “115 melee fire damage” tier 7 mod on it so i expected it to give my frost claw some nice damage boost, but the damage estimate barely moved. Does this mean it only counts neutral melee damage? it’s so crappy if so.
Just making sure, your frost claw is converted to fire? If so, did you check to see if it’s just a tooltip issue? Should be pretty easy to test on a dummy casting only frost claw (or any other spell) with the weapon equipped or unequipped. That amount of damage would be pretty noticeable I think.
Depends on the specifics, I’d expect that 115 to be added as 46 spell fire damage to Frost Claw. Do you have much other flat or adaptive spell damage? Do you have much % increased spell/cold/fire/elemental damage? If you have lots of flat cold or adaptive damage already & minimal % spell/fire/elemental damage modifiers then you may not notice the additional fire spell damage.
You could try crafting t5 melee cold on a weapon & comparing how much the tooltip changes compared to t5 melee fire damage.
guys, my bad here. when i got back to the game again the tooltip had the damage increased. what i think happened is that i checked the tooltip as soon as i became a spellblade and the game didn’t update it for some reason. not sure why that happened but it must by a tooltip error.
If you were in town or the end of time this can sometimes happen. Especially if you’ve got your stash open while you’re looking.
it only applies to flat melee affixes not elemental melee
No, it takes any & all flat melee damage & converts 40% of that to spell damage. I used a basic Longsword (+50 melee damage) with an unspecc’d fireball & was doing ~344 damage (versus ~214 without any weapon) compared to ~429 with a Longsword with +41 melee Lightning.
thats just the melee lightning damage passing to the target through your increased+more modifiers. you can test this by looking at +spell damage on character sheet
