I felt a few build have had a lack of options for some specific types of builds. One obvious solution would be to add more skills to support those playstyles. Sometimes you might want to use the same skills but with a different spec for clearing vs single target.
In my eyes ARPGs are their best when they let the player and the math find their own balance point. There are some potential unwanted abuses like buff skills and CD skills, those could have a buff tag and buff tags can only be spec’ed once. If a spec would turn a spell into a CD skill then it could ont be spec’ed once as well.
What do you think? Has this been discussed before, whether here or among the devs? Have you ever wanted to spec into a skill twice for a totally different spec at the same time?
Do you mean concretely having a specific skill spec’ed twice, with different nodes selected?
This may be sometimes useful, but it would take a spec slot that would be even more useful for another skill, I’m pretty sure. I fear it’s a kind of “false good idea”. It looks interesting, but would almost never be used because it would result in a global power loss.
that is exactly the idea. I agree most of the time you would go for 5 unique skills, but say you want to use multishot for clearing and single target then one would spec for barrage and the other would be the normal fan.
There are many nodes that totally change the identity of a skill and having an opportunity to use another spec is almost the same as using a new skill.
Seems too powerful for any skill that procs another skill and uses the procced skills tree. If you could then have 2 trees built for the skill, would it then use the combined trees? If not, how would it choose?
Other than that, I can see the usefulness. Someone may want to spec into smite as a damage spell, but then also use it as a movement skill.
Yeah, Static/Lightning Blast is a good example. If you had 1 instance of Lightning Blast spec’d for clear (ie, not the Convergence node) & one for single target, which one would Static (or the 50 other Mage skills that can be used to proc Lightning Blast) use?
I generally like the idea, as long at it costs 2 active skill slots and 2 specilisation slots.
But as already mentioned there would be some major changes made to skills triggering other skill.
Maybe skills that trigger other skills, need to select “which version” you want to trigger.
And if one of the two skills does have a cooldown, they do share cooldown or stuff like this.
On the other hand… the desire to do this might become less, as we get mroe skills.
Some masteries still miss out 2-3 active skills.
