Soul Fire Bastion is Beyond Frustrating

This dungeon has many problems that make it infuriating to play. Some of them have already been covered by McFluffin, so I will try not to be too redundant. Some of these points are specific to minion builds, but others are not.

  • Getting one-shotted by a single fireball when you have 2500 health and several hundred ward is just ridiculous (I also have full fire resistance). Some of these fireballs are impossible to avoid as they swirl around at the same time as other necrotic ones. You are instantly killed by ignite, so even if you have a belt that let’s you cleanse ailments, you have no time to use a potion. Also, a belt with an ailment cleanse shouldn’t be a crutch attribute anyway.
  • Sometimes the giant rings that appear under you give you time to react and other times they are damn near instant. The overlap gets crazy at times and it feels more like some goofy game of whackamole, instead of a fighting game.
  • The dungeon is beyond annoying and stressful to play. You are constantly being attacked from enemies off the screen and it’s even more annoying with a minion build because they draw enemies from four directions (which again you can’t even see them). On top of this, everything in T4 one-shots you unless you have several thousand ward (and this just isn’t feasible for most builds). Having to play so slow and careful so you don’t get one-shotted by some enemy you can’t see is not fun IMO. It’s like a military shooter where you have to crawl around and one bullet will kill you.
  • As you move around, you are constantly being blinded by overhead objects. The map shouldn’t be obstructing your view. Whatever those giant lantern things are that hang from the ceiling and move back and forth…
  • The boss is totally ridiculous on T4 for any necro build other than an abomination or wraith build. He completely melts your minions damn near instantly even with 800% extra health, crit avoidance, great base health through intelligence stacking, and lots of leech.
  • The boss attacks are often impossible to avoid and this was covered well by McFluffin’s video. Timing the wave is damn near impossible and even if it doesn’t kill you, the ridiculous ignite damage will kill you even with the fire shield up. I could swear there is a bug because I don’t even see ignite stacks and my health drains to zero from fire damage even with a fire shield up. I wrote a separate post about this.
  • Overall this dungeon just isn’t fun and I’m curious if anyone actually enjoys it.
  • There are lots of balance issues in general when fighting certain bosses using certain builds. I won’t go into all of that, but I’d be curious if Last Epoch devs runs stats on success ratios for certain build types. McFluffin also touched on this a bit in his video and I recommend watching it if you haven’t.

I’ll fully reply here later but some points.

  • The jump in HP and damage from T3>T4 in both dungeon is stupid high resulting in 1 shots even with high defense. I am changing my build a bit since I can drop lunge and add Rebuke due to 1 shots. If you can’t avoid everything, having a absorb helps I found. Only works for sentinel and I’m not familiar with necro.

  • Only dangerous mob I have found in soulfire is the necro angel thing that drops down and drops his huge ass aoe hit. Of course, you can 1 shot him before he gets it off usually. You have switch for it. Necrotic in general has some random mobs that high like a truck. Fire seems more controlled.
