Something while you grind - a meta craft idea

First, I like to say that this is an idea, not a suggestion or demand. Just something to contemplate. Also, numbers (*) are just for example’s sake… nothing backed up by data.

Simply put, a shards bin. Collect shards of a certain affix via shattering weapons. Chuck them in a bin and get a higher tiered shard back. More shards = higher tier.

Let’s say you drop in *2, 4… 64 shards into the bin and get a t2, t3… t7 tiered shard back. Might cost you some gold too. I guess the number of shards needed would vary from affix to affix depending on rarity.

This tiered shard would be a new element to LE. And it could be applied to an empty slot on a weapon at the cost *50% crafting potential of initial CP. The CP cost would be the best controller to avoid breaking the game.

Something like this would make things that I consider clutter, more viable.

  • Gold for the constant shattering.
  • Empty slot weapons for crafting.
  • A silver lining / another use for Rune of Removal.
  • The thousand resistance shards piling up in your forge.

Example, I got a good weapon with an empty slot (originally or removaled) and want to get crit chance on. I set up my loot filter, pick up and shatter all the crit chance weapons. After *20 monoliths, I got 32 crit chance shards which I can turn into a T6 shard… and improve that weapon.

Excellent, I accomplished something.

This is something Mike has already said a year or two ago that they would like to do. It was inline with decreasing shard drops frequency and increasing shard drop quantity. Basically, it would drop less often but in higher quantity when it did.

However, you now have nemesis, loot lizards and even the event mobs that drop shard pinatas, so I don’t know if that plan is still on the table.

Cool, I hope they do bring something like this into the game. Well anything that makes crafting more depth and continuous. I get more enjoyment from the act of crafting rather then the possible god roll out come.
