Some more player feedback

Hi guys,

Random player here, taking some time to give feedback, hopefully it’s somewhat useful.
Long time H&S player, mainly PoE in the last 5 years. Been playing LE here and there for 2 around 2 years, when an update raised my interest.

I have been playing 0.9 far more than any other update, and have been thoroughly enjoying it. Here is the “feel-good” feedback first:

  • Building characters and levelling feels good. At least in the first 50-60 levels, there’s always that next thing to unlock that will give a significant power boost.
  • Game systems are well explained and making builds is at a nice complexity balance. Especially when you compare to the poverty of D3 (and D4 :sad:), and the absolute mind-f*ck that is PoE today.
  • Some environments are truly eye-catching. Great progress here since the game’s humble beginnings.
  • End-game systems are already pretty varied and engaging. I have that “one more mono node” feeling that I have with PoE’s mapping system.
  • The crafting system is truly great. Useful at any level, easy to engage with, and offering great min-maxing opportunities.
  • The filter system is equally great. Easy to setup, tweak, understand. Never seen anything better in that space.
  • Some pretty nice bossfights in there already!

Now for the areas I feel could be improved.

  • The campaign is just too damn long after the first 2-3 chars. There is SO MUCH time spent just walking (slowly) through meaningless zones, clearing unchallenging packs (hello temple of Eterra). I’m not saying there should be alternate levelling, but at least a serious trimming. When I read that the campaign is not even finished yet, it makes me afraid.
  • I can remember absolutely zero music when I quit the game. Not that it’s particularly bad, just unimpactful. It’s also somewhat out of place in certain areas. I remember my first end-of-time, being amazed by the art and the background, and thinking the music just made me think of a stroll in the woods.
  • Combat is feeling much better than before, but it still could be better. Played a little bit of D4 this week-end, and the barbarian instantly feels like a murderous madman.
  • The filter system could be improved even more: being able to filter on forging potential for example would be very cool. Basically any stats on an item could be added as a filter.
  • Searching in the chest should show the matching items even clearer. I sometimes have some difficulty seeing what items are highlighted in a tab that is completely full.
  • I’m on the fence about shards pick-up. I don’t mind clicking with the vacuum effect, but 2 things bother me. First, not being able to pick-up something because my inventory is half-full of shards seems kind of useless friction to me. Second, running through a mono, then “having” to backtrack just to pick-up a shard, does not feel very good.
  • Character models are weird. I’m sorry, it’s not very detailed, but that’s just how I feel on the character selection screen. They’re not ugly, they’re not pretty, just weird.

That’s it for now. I’m far from done playing LE, it’s truly a great game. Keep it up, I’m very interested to see how the game evolves!
