So How Do I Save And Restore Progress?

Only just started the game, got to the ‘ruined’ area and played for a bit but had to log out … when I came back I’d respawned at the start of the zone, the overlay map was blank except for the ‘?’ quest marker, all mobs had respawned and I had to try to get back when I logged out without a map to help me.

Is this really how this game works, all progress is lost if you have to logout (or even DC)? If so it’s not a game for me, in this case I lost 30 mins pprogress because I had to go some RL stuff. :frowning:

[edit]

Looking at the map the only travel point I’ve go unlocked is the first one, yet I KNOW I was at the location of at least the second one.

The overlay being blank wqas fixed when I returned to the previous zone and came back, so I guess that’s a bug when loading in from a save.

When loading or DC’ing, your character will go back to the last Epoch Gate (the clock looking shiny circles on the ground with glowy Roman Numerals). Maps will reload with mobs. There is no manual save/load state. The way to make sure the game is saved is to use the Town Portal to return to the last town and continue forward by using the M (Map) key a teleporting to the last Epoch Gate you’ve unlocked.

I’ve had bugs where the game doesn’t register that I’ve been to a gate. They are supposed to automatically activate when you get near to them, but I’ve had a similar problem where the game doesn’t remember that I’ve been there so I’ve taken to clicking on each one and making sure the map opens before moving on. Hopefully it gets ironed out in a future patch. The blank map is also a bug, I’ve been able to fix it by exiting the area and re-entering, it doesn’t happen every time, but it’s not not uncommon

Can confirm. Have had this happen to me as well with the same result of leaving and re-entering the zone to fix.

Okay, appreciate the replies, especially about the non-activation of gates, also I guess it was my fault in not checking because TBH at the stage I was at when I logged out I actually hadn’t recognised the gates, which to me at first looked just like a floor decoration and didn’t stand out like similar devices to in Diablo and PoE … again, noob learning defficiency.

I guess it’s no different from other ARPGs, my main annoyance was when I logged back in to find the overlay map was blank so I had no map to follow, that too seems to have been a bug.

There is a known bug that when you leave a map for any reason, when you return (even if you return immediately) all knowledge of the map that you had already uncovered is lost and only some random areas will appear explored. Quite often areas you have not even visited yet.

Hope they fix it soon it’s a real pain.

It’s not a bug per se, they had always described it as a technical limitation which would be resolved when they changed how the level data was stored with mp.
