Snapshotting needs to be removed from the game

The current situation? We have a forge guard manifest armour build at the top of the arena ladder nearing 2k waves, which swaps out its entire gearset/weapon/idols to T7 Phys dmg over time / increased minion health /damage / regen / DoT, the whole works, to snapshot stats and summon a manifest armour minion that is a titan of damage and survivability, then swaps back to its entire defensive focused gearset of 6k+ life, 2k+ hp regen, 100% block with 4000+ block effectiveness, capped armour and everything else.

The result is that the manifest armour minion runs around destroying everything because it is a titan of stats that should never be possible, while the player is a titan of a defensive tank that would never be possible on any other build because DPS would grind to a halt and not be able to damage anything, not even white mobs.

There is nothing left to do in the endgame. I wanted to compete on the ladder with several different builds, I know its not possible to do because no build will come close to something that is snapshotting a minion for damage and then putting on defensive gear.

It should have been removed from the game years ago yet it is still here.

For performance reasons. They did change how stats work for the Falcon, so hopefthey can apply that to single minions like Manifest Armour as well.

Hope they do it for all classes which are affected like acolyte and beastmaster, not sure if there are more.

Agreed, snapshotting is lame. Just have skills update every time they are used - or in the case of passive/minion skills, like once every 5 seconds or something.

I’m sure you’d be fine with the game lagging more during combat, right?

Considering right now it lags pretty much 0, maybe? Honestly though, I don’t think an update on the order of “once every few second” for minions would noticeably cause lag at all anyway. It doesn’t need to be constantly updating, just enough that snapshotting doesn’t work.

I don’t know why either & it may have been an issue in the early days before they did as much optimisation, it could also be Unity just being shockingly bad. :person_shrugging:t3: But “performance reasons” were the justification for why minions snapshot.

As a computer engineer, if there are “performance issues” getting rid of snapshotting, the issue is with the performance of the programmer… like the “performance issues” with the stash (Which are thankfully fixed). There is absolutely nothing “difficult” about getting rid of snapshotting.

Every time an armor piece is changed, the server knows about it, and this could easily recalc the pet stats based on current armor… or set a flag for it to be recalced in a few seconds. Nothing hard or performance taxing about this.

:person_shrugging:t3: as I said, I don’t know why they said it was for performance reasons, that’s just what they said.

I also think the Devs said in an interview that it’s a bit complicated without going into detail. Or maybe my brain is just fried. I trust they don’t like that this is happening and are trying to find a way to fix this.
