Smite becomes unusable seemingly at random (Multiplayer)

I’ve tried to nail down what causes this problem but I can’t figure it out. While playing with a friend I sometimes just lose the ability to use Smite. The button does not react in anyway. Changing spot on the hotbar does not fix it. Changing zones does not fix it. Only going back out to character select does.

For a while I thought it was related to Battle Standard. I ruled that out. I thought it might have something to do with changing zones but ruled that out. I really don’t know what the trigger is.

I got the exact same error since the hotfix patch 0.9.1B…

Are you playing alone?

Error occurred while playing mith a friend. Had not much time since patch to play solo
