I have been trying a new build with Maelstrom lately. This spell can be great and great ability.
I have noticed at the same time it would seem that this spell is stuck in between 2 different types. It is a spell that builds stacks but it is not a channeled skill. When running through the map and casting Maelstrom, it interrupts my running. If the purpose of this spell is to build stacks and not be a channeled skill, why is the casting animation interrupting my running through the map?
Is it possible to change the casting animation so that it does not interrupt running throughout the map?
What you describe is exactly the challenge you need to overcome. You need to find clever ways to get around this drawback.
There are plenty of ways to generate Maelstrom Stacks without actually casting it.
On top of that if you prefer a playstyle where you only cast it every now and then the Beneath the Waves Keynode would benefit you greatly.
When I played a Melee Necrotic Baby Scorpion Beastmaster with Yulia’s Path I manged to stay at 15-20 stacks without doing much and 20-25 when actively fighting.
Although this was not my primary source of damage you could play something simlar, where Maelstrom is your main source of damage.
I would love to make Maelstrom my primary source of damage but I have been finding it hard to get lots of stacks. I know that I can get 4 stacks every time I use Warcry every 4.7 seconds. I know that I could also get stacks with the passive Swirling Maelstrom but other than that, I am not sure how to get more. Any idea’s or help would be greatly appreciated!!
Sources of Maelstrom:
Gathering Storm (Skill Spec Tree Node within Maelstrom: Gives up to 25% chance to gain a stack on kill
Frostburn Seed Relic: 10-24%/5sec
Tempestuous Large Idol Prefix: 9-30%/5sec (you can fit up to 4 of these into your idols space)
Eye of the Storm Unique Amulet: 33-45%/sec
If you get more than 100% you will get 1 stack/5sec guaranteed and have chance for anotehr stack. So this works like ailments.
With all of the mentioned things you can get over 200%/5sec + on kill + self casts
Yulia’s Path is an amazing item. Baby Scorpions can’t objectively compete with Wolves or Squirells, just because you get higher nubmer of minions, but I really like it because you can play with single big companion which helps drastically them not dying (on top of Maelstrom Heal/sec, which makes your baby scorpions basically invulnerable.
And Mama scorpion is a Angry Big Mother when you take all the increased size modifiers. (with the Beastmaster Single Companion Passive Node)
Singletarget is still excellent, only the clear is medicore. Was still one of the only minion build I ever enjoyed, besides my Günther Build (Single Huge Abomination)
