After playing a resonable amount of hours I felt like it’s time to leave some feedback before I take a break from the game.
Structure:
- Campaign and start of the game
- Progression and items
- Endgame
To be clear from the start; I think this game has no solid foundation but a great one. Almost everything the game got praised for in the media and on YT from different content creators throughout different cultures and countries is true. It’s as good as people made it out to be, which is why I bought the game roughly three weeks after it’s 1.0 launch in the first place.
I did everything in the game I wanted and even pushed arena and corruption in higher tiers.
Because I think what the game does well is obvious and like I mentioned this has been said on numerous occasions already, I will focus on the things I personally think need improvement.
I will leave out the whole trading and RMT and botting matter.
Again, keep in mind that I will focus on things to improve and, therefore, will not mention the things done well.
1. The campaign and start feel like an assembling of multiple pieces rather than one coherent thing. There are way too many loading screens, the world feels incredible linear, the characters are badly introduced and the story, despite it’s insane potential is poorly written and in parts already reptetive.
The most important takeway is the bad cast of characters. Noone is interesting and by far the worst part is that the villains are uninteresting and blant. There is nothing memorable and the whole thing pales compared to a Diablo 2. I can’t stress enough how important a good villain is. I don’t even know at this point, who the big bad is.
The cutscenes don’t benefit the game in any way - parallaxed images in 2024 are a bad taste and nothing to be excited about or for. Every god in the story was and is a huge disappointment and nothing of what a god would or should mean comes across in any part of the game, ever.
- Please: Less loading screens, better and more voice covered story, better transitions between different story parts and don’t let me free some random dude from a cage multiple times.
Add rendered cutscenes, get a better narration, better dialogue and open the map parts up and or merge some. Give the gods and bad guys a bigger impact, background, introduction and a much more impressive environment they are in and are fought at. (That random plattform for the black sun bird - really???)
2 and 3. The item and skill variety has to be increased severely for all classes and builds.
As an example; there is no one-handed sword that focuses on void-damage for Void Knights outside of the set one, which falls of quite hard during the endgame due to having no LP. Set items in general need an improvement. Be it through some special crafting or whatever it is, they just don’t cut it and there are only a hand full of barely useful ones in the first place.
The progression throughout monolith’s tends to slow down severely, if one does not play the fotm class or build.
In general, the balance here is atrocious - which would not matter, if you did not have a ladder or farming would not be so important. But it is.
The ladder comes down to one thing: solo character found or not. If not, the best play to play your class is, right now, to play a different one if you are no warlock or falconer and farm all the stuff you need on them. That’s plain bad, period.
Arena needs some mechanic to save your progress and return at a later point in time. The loadout should be frozen ofc, to avoid gearing up in the meantime etc. but it’s just a bad concept to be forced to pump arena non stop for hours on end to push as far as you can without the possiblity to take a break or do literally anything else. Progress needs to be saveable at some point.
The different timelines should offer different mechanics or some other means of differentiating them from one another. Just some random example, please don’t get hung up on it: Black sun timeline could have special monsters of modifiers that deal increased void damage to the player and leave puddles after death of a boss or whatnot. Point being that there should be some variation between timelines other than the boss after having x stability.
On this note, the supposedly incresed droprate for x loot, for example shields could and should be better implemented. One could maybe encounter more nodes with specific loot of said items, just a thought.
The pinnacle PvE events have already been mentioned by the devs, so I won’t go over that again. All in all these are just my thought on what needs improvements and they are certainly not complete yet.
I don’t think everything or even anything is objective here but Iam still certain that my points hold at least some value and would benefit the game in some way.
I really like the game and think it’s better than PoE in many parts and much better than Diablo 4 in most aspects. Hence my feedback on what I think needs improvement.
My influence on anything regarding the game is very limited, I know that, even when voting with my wallet. So I felt like leaving this feedback is at least something.
