One quite random thought (again):
Should dungeons be called “dungeons”?
It has been coined in many games, for a very long time, to designate group instances, opposed to solo content. Which is not what they are in Last Epoch. (Although, not all games use it for group content nowadays. I was quite scared when Lost Ark campaign sent me early to a dungeon, but it turned out to be a really easy solo thing. Phew!).
Anyway, I am wondering if another more original name could be found?
My personal favourite is LAIRS. I assume they would all have a big boss at the end, so that would fit.
Any other ideas, travelers?
Caves? Islands? Hubs? Timewarps? Timeholes? Grottos? Bunkers? Tolbooths? Slaughterhouses? Meadows? Pens? Instances? …
IMO, no, I think dungeons is fine. Just because a thing is called one thing in one game (D2 called uniques uniques) and another in a different game (D3 called them legendaries) doesn’t mean you can’t call them whatever you want in your game (uniques in LE).
I agree, the word “dungeon” does not seem appropriate anymore.
Lair is a nice proposal, sure, but does it really describe what these are? I’m not sure, I don’t know.
I love reading threads like this. Most of these terms were considered and debated heavily for a long time. I can’t say we looked at “Slaughterhouses” but I see what you’re going for
I think I like Lairs too. They’re special hard-to-reach places to fight bosses, like they’re hiding while doing their own evil business, so it makes sense. Anyway is not that I don’t like “Dungeons” too but sounds like Lairs fits better.
