If you are playing a melee hit build you are using Shattered chains belt + Siphon ring in every build FULL stop and it sucks!!! I have to use these REQUIRED, boring, generic items because I’d like to make a Melee build. It’s as bad if not worse than old Volatile Reversal was for Sentinel and how you needed it in every build.
I was in the build planner just now and thought about playing some cool new hit Melee build and it’s just not possible because these items exist. They just need to be reworked next Season so we can actually get some excting fresh Melee builds going in this game.
I really hope the Devs start looking at these mandatory items that are used in EVERY build because they are the foundation of that build archetype. Where there is no choice because if you don’t use them it’s a MISTAKE. Feels bad.
Yea it’s popular and replaced peak of the mountain at times but it’s not bad because there are other options, other ways to get crit. Where every build needs the more multiplier from shattered/siphon. It’s just bad design and hate those boring items. Makes you not want to make a melee hit character.

I give you just few simple examples: swordancer on shadow dagger with 2 penumbras, forge guard with forge weapons set and two phantom rings (and yes its melee build), frost spellblade also doesnt care about this shit. So, If you can’t play without those items, don’t thinks others can’t do.
They aren’t because they don’t have more modifiers amplifying your hit damage. Which is a core of build making. If nothing changes then these items will be required next season too and it’s just really bad game design. Many items need an overhaul just like Classes so we can actually get more interesting builds.
huh? You think my damage is low coz I don’t have some ring and belt? nice joke. Try it on hardcore and I gave you examples when you don’t need it. Find out more yourself. This has nothing to do with you or any player. It’s about bad design and lack of choice because of that bad design. If you aren’t using these more multpliers factually you are making a build that does less damage. It’s why every single build guide has these 2 items in it for any hit damage melee build.
The design and choices can be way better which would help build diversity and creativity in builds when items aren’t always used in some archetypes.
That’s all that can be said. Hopefully in Season 3 EHG really addresses and overhauls some items and some other classes so we can have more fun. Good day.
Probably because it’s easier to talk about DPS than defences/EHP & “nicer” since the numbers more obviously go up. Killing a boss twice as fast is easier to see & feels nicer rather than being able to tank double the incoming damage. But LE has always been more about defence than offence.
That’s like saying why take the more multipliers in the skill? Why not just skip them too? Obviously you don’t do that because they are the foundational CORE component of the build. They enable the damage, it would be a mistake.
When you make a melee hit build you start the build planner with a Shattered chains + Siphon. It’s the foundation of the build. You start with a zero LP then 1 then 2. It’s the cornerstone of the archetype.
Not doing that is just making a mistake like not taking the correct skill node in the tree.
I’d like creative fun design where players had some agency to have fun and really be able to create something cool. That would be good game design. Instead of every single build planner having the same 2 items in it for an Archetype.
Again it’s very similar to how every Sentinel build required Volatile reversal. If you didn’t take that skill your build was just worse, Volatile reversal was the foundation of Sentinel and propping them up. That is why EHG fixed it and overhauled Sentinel because that felt really bad. We have this same situation with many items and hope this gets addressed so the game is better.

Its not possible, Ive played this genre for over a decade, players will just choose the best option even if its only 3% better.
Buffing melee baseline by 39% to account for 20% more melee damage and 16% increased damage taken means that some new uniques will just become the new shoehorn. Sorta like red ring is the current “well if your build does not have a red ring, its bad” that people fall prey to.
I dont really care either way, but they probably would just nerf the items and not even buff melee, or buff melee by 10% and instead now you need giga perfect exalted items to replace the damage you got from easily farmed items. its lose lose.
15% more damage is not a “foundation of the build”. It’s 15% (20%? How many stacks is Doom agIn?) more, which is not nothing, but it’s definitely not “foundational” or build defining or anything like that. If it were something like the squirrel helm or Smite idols or the Wraithlord’s Harbour then yes, I could accept that as being “foundational”.
But for you damage & pushing corruption is fun & that appears to be it, hence your view that Shattered Chains + Siphon is “foundational”… And that’s fair enough & I wish the game’s balance was closer so more builds were available to push an arbitrarily high corruption. But please don’t use words like “fun” that have a different meaning to average/normal gamers when “efficient” gets your meaning across without muddying the waters…
And let’s not even get into your brutally one dimensional view point that is/was “every Sentinel build takes VR otherwise it’s objectively wrong”. 'Cause I know you don’t have the mental capability to accept that, it’s a blind spot as broad as my autistic son’s inability to understand why people don’t like him being a dick.
Irrelevant. PvP power and PvE power is one in the same.
This is a power fantasy game, what is required are powerful items. They are the foundation of the build and lead to the end goal of the game to attain vast power. No one is going to choose to be weak in a game based on POWER because that isn’t a choice at all.
