Shared elements between characters

It would be nice to have a link between characters in normal mode, other than a shared stash. I think about something in the progression. I don’t know what exactly, but I feel that when one character accomplishes something, it should at least partially benefit other characters. This would show their belonging to a group/family/whatever.

As long as it’s not a progression/power system similar to D3’s Paragon System i’m fine.

Those kind of systems that don’t have a power ceiling, even when they have diminishing return can increases the gap between “normal players” and “super hardcore players” unnecessarily. (Also it heavily supports botting/account sharing, but i don’t know if this will be a thing for LE)

Even though i am more on the “hardcore player” side (in terms of hours played) i do think systems like this are not healthy for a competitive envirmoment.

Even though aRPG’s are not the most competitive type of games, having healthy leaderboards and stuff to “measure” yourself needs to feel good, even for the more casual player.

If you didn’t mean systems like this i am totally sorry to derail your topic (in case i get alot of hate for my statements :imp:)

Agreed re: the effect on competitive environments, especially because if there is any power increase from it, it can be very discouraging for new players.

It’s really tough to say anything about this if you don’t have more specific ideas about what it is you have in mind. In general, I for one really like the ‘clean’ feel of a new character, and would tend to be opposed to something like this. Maybe, if it is purely cosmetic and does not alter gameplay at all, it might be acceptable. It also depends how you’d plan to fit it in with the lore. If your characters are more or less unrelated timelines, as implied by the Forgotten Knight (? I think? the shadowy mastery person), then how would you justify some sort of connection?

I do agree. I have no exact idea of what I want, it’s more like a feeling, but I can confirm it’s not something like the Parangon system from D3. It’s not some kind of added power.
As I said, it’s just a feeling. I feel our heroes in normal mode are linked and we should see it other than with a shared stash. Maybe by unlocking activities or zones ? I really don’t know.

Are you talking in terms of story? Because I feel there’s absolutely little to no connection between them except maybe the Mage and Acolyte and even then, it’s just during the intro movie.

No, in terms of progression in the endgame. That’s why I talked about normal mode, because of course in solo mode all heroes are totally separate.
And in terms of lore, I agree with you.

The one other thing that I have seen before that I actually did like was from Marvel Heroes. It had an XP boost based on the number of max level characters you had. It promoted people making new toons rather than just quitting the game once they got a character to max.

I like it because one of the biggest holdups for people making new characters is the grind. People get bored with it.

They could do something like +.2% increased EXP per characters level 81+ on the account. So a level 85 character would add 1.0% increased EXP gain. A level 85, 90, and 100 on your account would give you an account wide 7.0% increased EXP gain.

The numbers could be tweaked, but if it is too low to be noticeable, then it won’t help with retention for players that want to make alts and not grind. I know that I played Marvel Heroes about 2 or 3 times longer than I would have because of that system.

This can be interesting, but it must be tweaked in order not to kill the campaign. I mean, if you arrive at Liath and Lagon with a level 70 hero, the fight will be very different from what it’s supposed to be.
Or maybe all this bonus experience can be stacked and delivered after the campaign only, which means that when you defeat Lagon, you gain 5 or 10 levels (for example of course, the numbers must be tweaked carefully).

Yea, but I also think that once you have beaten the campaign on your account, you should be able to start a new character at the End of Time. I really don’t want to have to replay the story on every new character I make. This does burn people out.

It could be an EXP boost that is only active in non-campaign content though. MoF and Arena and whatever the other end game modes are going to be.

That’s another question, but I agree. And I read somewhere the devs want us to play the whole campaign for each new hero, so this will likely not happen.
My thought is that you must complete the campaign once with your first hero, then there should be a system for other heroes. Some kind a leveling activity, maybe an extension of the Monoliths system. It would start at level 1 and bring the character to around level 50.
And on the opposite, I think “grown up” heroes should be able to replay the campaign, at another difficulty level.
