While everyone here is focused on LE and PoE, there is a game with similar combat, but really awesome. It’s rouguelike, but with basically ARPG combat, which feels at least as good as Poe 2 combat, and with build diversity better than many ARPG have. The only thing it currently lacks imho, is monsters variety. It’s currently in free EA, will be released in May 2025 (they call it demo, but it’s EA really). If you like ARPG-style combat, I highly recommend to try this one, it’s just so good and polished. I tried it a year or two ago, it was interesting, but very unbalanced; now balance is very good despite a lot of interactions and diversity of skills (it has Poe 2 gem system, with active and support gems). I am enjoying it a lot, they are doing really god job. Every run feels completely different from previous one, with very different build, different gameplay.
I agree, it’s a very promising roguelite ARPG and the free “demo” has a lot of content. It’s absolutely worth checking it out if you like games like Hades (and all the hades-like games that sparked from it).
This game hasn’t surprised me in any way (I’ve seen most of its mechanics many times before) BUT it does everything very well and it’s just super fun to play.
I think my only pet peeves (and it’s minor) is the absence of a run button. After that amazing addition to Hades 2, it’s hard now to go back to games with a lot less mobility. I understand combat is calibrated around that (and that makes the dash-management even more important)… but at least between fights, I’d like to zoomy-zoom-zoom to the next room.
I am not huge fan of Hades, but for me it feels more similar to Poe 2 than for Hades, in terms of combat and build customization. In Hades, I didn’t feel such build diversity, and combat feels quite differently. For example, in Hades you need to avoid almost everything, because healing is very limited, which makes it more like Trials of Sekhema. While in Shape of Dreams you should just not die, and usually can easily heal damage back.
Tvm for sharing, I will give it a try
