What do you all think of having set items to be able to drop with LP? There are so many sets I want to play with but none ever seem useful past leveling. It would certainly make them more appealing and allow for some interesting builds.
Back when they added the LP system that was my first request as well.
But EHG’s response to this is actually something that I truly respect.
They want Set Items to feel different and distinct from Uniques. So they don’t want to add LP. They are aware that sets are in a tough spot and they want to do something about it.
We have to see how things pan out. Maybe if their ideas of sets don’t work out they might add LP as a last measurement.
But I really do respect the idea of making sets not just uniques with set bonuses.
Yes, that’s a good point. I wonder if they will make new sets aimed towards the end-game then? That seems to work with the biggest issue for sets which is the loss of stats.
I thought it was because they didn’t want them to be desired items, and/or even be considered above even a shitty-rolled rare. Other than the niche set item being used, that they wanted to blatantly punish the player for making such a silly decision, in the first place.
i think they were scared to end up with sets ala d3. so we get less than desirable sets.
dont be too scared. just have to avoid +10k-20k% boosts

This, I think they’re tuning them very carefully and on the lower end of the spectrum to avoid them being the auto-equip for every class/mastery.
The piece that drops for a given slot being kind of a mystery and/or using the legendary system is the desired optimal end-game setup they have in mind for players I believe.
But sets are just a bit TOO on the low end now. They should act as more of a middle-ground until you do have the proper exalted items and legendaries to replace the set imo.
We’ll have to see how they revamp sets, which I think should come soon(ish). Maybe even in 1.1. At least, from what Mike has said in his streams, I understand that they want this to happen fairly soon(ish).
Personally, I would like it if sets were build creators. They should just give a bonus that would modify skills in a way to create a new build but that would be totally useless for the rest of the builds. Something akin to skill modifiers. That way they don’t become mandatory to use, nor to they become irrelevant.
For example, a set could turn wandering spirits into an aura, or instead make it so you only create one huge spirit at a time. Or it could make totems explode, or the player carries one with him at all times.
In my opinion, that would be a fun idea for sets. It would just have to be balanced so you don’t end up always using the aura spirits in every build, but I think that could be changed by upping the required items for sets.
Lich’s Scorn very much does this as I’ve made an entire build around its mechanics and am having a great time!
Having a bunch of build sets seems like it would make the item bloat even worse.
I’d rather see generically useful sets that fall between a build with a few uniques, but below good legendaries. D3 actually does this a bit with Legacy of Dreams often being a very high-tier build, while at lower gear levels you often use the decent bonuses from generic sets like Blackthorn and Captain Crimson. I definitely don’t like the auto-equip where I farm up and roll Traveler’s Pledge/Compass rose for sockets every single season.
