Thats kinda funny I’ve been sitting in LE tools for a little bit now trying to theorycraft a VK time rot build and i just assumed an exalted sword would be better but you’re actually right, the sword itself from the set is kinda good aswell, the only thing you get from the exalted sword is increased void damage, increased damge over time and chance to slow on hit (which is fairly easy to get from idols, up to 60% on 1x4 and up to 40% on 1x3)
I guess one thing we dont know is what affixes we will get from the affix shards, i dont mean the set bonus i mean the affixes themselves. If we get 15% attack and cast speed as an affix shard then the exalted-set version is obviously superior
While you can get slow on a sword/wand, you can also get slow from many other sources such as on idols(ornate have upto 60%), passive node teased here and Atrophy gloves.
The full Forgotten knight set also grants another 36% Void dmg multiplier and 75% pen.
Sword/Wand also has the drawback of 9% more damage taken(dual wielding) while using a set affix to replace the FK shield with an Ironglass you can potentially get decent block.
Of course this is purely based on what we know know. Maybe Forgotten Knight is nerfed like the other sets showcased. So we’ll need to wait for patch notes.
the slow on hit is the real thing making forgotten knight worse than an exalted sword.
Also you can just use a wand in main hand and sword in off hand, in order to gain cast speed and a lot of slow. in addition to massive amounts of increased dot/increased void damage
Also the idols have time rot on hit as a possible node, so slow is not the only thing to concider, optimal idols would involve SOME time rot because it is multaplicative. I am unsure the perfect balance
If you want to use the forgotten knight set and get the 3-piece bonus you must use a shield i believe. Sword - shield - amulet. No idea if they changed the set bonuses but the 3-set bonus looks really good to me
Lets see… Forgotten knight set is 75% pen, 36% more(3 per rot), 42-56%rot chance. 129-245% increased. This comes to about 1.75X1.36X(2.56/2)=3 times damage mult. The 2.56/2 in the formula was because I was assuming 100% rot chance before equipping.
If you get cast speed on a relic, the speed used for multiplier hits 60%(around same as running wand+sword).
You may be correct, but there is a world where you may remove the shield from the set, it may or may not come out to a theoretically higher value, as the shield is really just a 36% more, doing nothing other than the set bonus, this may make 1 hand weapon + off hand knight more effective(but requires crunching the exact numbers)… wait, shield gives time rot, so maybe the knight blade?
Went and actually calculated what forgotten knight set + slow idols + a few passive tree nodes for time rot would do
I hit around 9k per time rot, or 110 k total… and it wasn’t even optimised
Yeah I think best hold off on calc till we get full patch notes. I was thinking something like https://www.lastepochtools.com/planner/oz5DNGEB
Wand you can also use slammed ladle for even more slow.
Here is mine
https://www.lastepochtools.com/planner/QdjPNn1o
Its with warpath. Im still unsure what the best way to is to actually apply the timerots, we’ll have to wait for the patchnotes. Its fairly min-maxed endgamey so its just aspirational. But its very tanky with the shield. I think with warpath shield makes sense, altho i know some people play it 2 handed
“Slow chance with void skill” Ladle is slow on melee, the other ladle is slow on spell. they do not affect the multiplier.
Also looking at your build, you missed a time rot node in void knight, you also missed a attack speed node in sentinel. This loses 30 speed(you can get to 90% mult instead of 60% and loses 20% time rot. https://www.lastepochtools.com/planner/olG1dLqB is after fix
Though I notice you are spamming time rot idols instead of slow idols, which may be why you only come out to 155k by my calc after my change(I forgot to add in your skills when calculating)
Warpath is good with the block chance but you’ll want generic more damage multipliers on the applicator skill since Timerot as an ailment will inherit them.
My thoughts were:
- Void Smite - it has a 250% more dmg multi and it can cap crit easily from its tree so will deal decent hit damage as well. Can also use Battle standard Javelin to autocast it while clearing and 6% of void dmg leech will offset the health consumption.
- Multistrike - it has generic more damage multipliers in its tree and will be getting a void conversion I think.
- Devouring Orb - The collision has a good 200% damage multiplier, I think void rift part will be getting removed for a DoT so it should not overwrite the big timerots from the collision.
Aw nuts.
Yeah I stopped midway since most of the nodes will be changing and we don’t know if the nodes will be the same. Should be getting 50% slow chance from the teased passive and more Rot chance as well.
Also grab Abyssal Echoes the Nether coating gets some additional attack speed(melee+throw) and 45% timerot chance. And it gives decent DoT multipliers from the left side of the tree as well.
Damn you’re right nether coating actually makes a lot of sense. A bit annoying you have to press it every 5 seconds tho but its a chunky damage boost
So far we have figured out that all idols as slow(though changing them a little may be slightly more optimal), forgotten knight set, vipertail belt, atrophy gloves(with cast speed), throwing attack rings. Best body/helm/boots are just +level pieces, also “reduced damage from crits” is the more efficient choice here than crit avoidance(possible to get without using affixes).
Then run abyssal echoes for the bonus time rot chance, attack speed and damage vs blinded(we do not have blind chance but do not worry, I can solve this), then we use shield bash(to apply blinded to bosses), then we use anomoly(not for time rot, but because it makes enemies take double damage, it also is using “immediacy” so that enemies are instantly affected by the double damage.
Then for our time rot procs we use either devouring orb or warpath.
I calculated this as about 300kdps ignoring bonuses from warpath/orb

Then run abyssal echoes for the bonus time rot chance, attack speed and damage vs blinded(we do not have blind chance but do not worry, I can solve this), then we use shield bash(to apply blinded to bosses),
Myopia node in Abyssal Echoes applies blind with Abyssal echoes only, no need for Shield bash(and its 18 sec CD). You wanna go that way for crumbling node’s 24% more global damage over time anyway.
You can get blind with amulet aswell. I have frailty on my amulet but I forgot that the reworked Woe passive (they revealed it in this post) it gives +50% frailty chance and also +50% slow chance so maybe chill or blind is better on ammy for the suffixes, until we get the uber abberroth amulet i think this is one of the few builds that benefit immensily from frenzy effect just because of the attack/cast speed multiplier
If you try to get blind via amulet you are giving up one of your set bonuses from forgotten knight
And that is 1.36 times mult, the amulet itself has 21-28% time rot too
I assume atleast one of the set affix shards will give time rot chance too. You dont need to use the set item for the set bonus, you can apply the set shards to exalted items
what is this about set shards?
you can shatter sets and create a rare/exalted item that counts as a set item.
