My Thoughts
The devs have talked a bit about there will be seasons in the game like PoE/D3 and i know many like that, but i have also seen people saying on various forums, that they are not a fan of it and like how it was in D2.
As i see it its not all good, my problem with it is i also like to keep playing the same character and not always like to start over.
But i do like to try out seasons and also get the new stuff.
The problem is that often you start a new season chr. play that or more chr. to the end of the season. A new season start and you never play the chr. again. So standard league in moved to that never really come in play. as it always start over and when you get the new stuff/items to standard league a new season begins.
My Suggestion
Make it possible at anytime doing a season to convert a season character to normal league, so when you got the stuff you wanted and completet the things in the season you like, you can move a chr, and the items om it to standard league and play with your āmain chrā again.
I think that will be a good option and middel ground that make it better for everyone if you like seasons or not
Hope devs will look into something like this.
Would the fact that Mike W (Senior Dev) mentioned on disord recently that although they havent finalised the idea of Cycles (LE seasons) he would like to have the new cycle content added to the normal game at the same time help? His motivation is to only have one version of the game to maintain rather than separate themā¦
IF this is how cycles end up working, then you could feasibly play the new content in the standard game with your existing characters at the same time as the new cycle starts, and only people who wanted to ācompeteā in the cycle could start new charsā¦
No idea if this is how Cycles will work because nothing is confirmed, but thats how I interpret what Mike W said regarding his preference.
Hi, sure that would also be a good option, but by being able to convert to chr, when you think you are done with the season you are still able to play with your friends in the season at start and then go standard when you feel for it.
Not sure about LE, but the one thing I hated in POE about the seasons was that they change the maps. This change happens to the āstandardā server as well, resetting progress of the old characters. So even if you donāt play the season, you still have to āstart overā on mapping.
I agree, that could potentially be unpleasant depending on how they handle that transition from old to new.
Cannot recall if this has been discussed regarding Cycles on the forum yet - maybe in a passing remark hidden behind a wall of text in another thread I never readā¦
Might actually be something to make a separate post about so that its more likely to be seenā¦ perhaps even referencing Mikes preference from Discordā¦ i.e. even if its not just one system how exactly will cycles transitionā¦
came in ready to strongly disagree with you, but I canāt really see a reason why your solution would be bad.
Seasons keep the devs working on the game and making money, so I am 100% for seasons. It gives people an opportunity to start fresh once theyāve completely min-maxed and done all content. I canāt see an issue with being able to convert your seasonal character to āstandardā once youāre done, but Iād be curious to hear a devs feedback.
Thx and yah, i canāt see any bad things with this if they implant a option like that.
And it will be good for some people, and something other ARPGās donāt have and might give it a small edge fore some players.
Iām like you as I prefer to play a single character. Only tried a couple seasons when I did play PoE while I really wanted to keep improving/working on my main.
Neocoregames Warhammer 40K Inquisitor has events and seaons. WH40K I isnāt as complex or unforgiving as PoE so I find it more enjoyable to participate in their seasons. Complete whichever level of the season objectives and I return to playing my main. Everything gained in the season reverts to a normal character and more for the Emperorās Coffers! (money, crafting material, consumables are account merged)
I really love your idea of āchecking outā of a season so your gains can convert to a normal save while money, consumables, and crafting material is merged into your mainās bank/your bank.
No Manās Sky began having seasons this year too. Iād rather just play / make gains on my main character as only the season rewards are account wide. Any new ships, components or discoveries remain on that character you created for the season. ie: So at the end of the season I could play that character but I would only end up repeating alot of the content Iāve already made with my main. Kinda bittersweet as season awards are great but end up deleting the season character to rinse repeat for the next season.
WHY should there be a merge button for season chars? If you are done with the season and got all the goodies you want go back to play your āmain charā or whatever and reap your rewards when the season ends like everyone else:
I donāt see any need to implement something like this at all.
