Quick and easy. The Scorpion companion does not receive a spell minion tag even with nodes that allows it to cast spells.
Both Acid Lob and Lightning Nova nodes specifically say they are spells. Ice thorns node does not specify, but in other scenarios it would give spell tag on minions(example bear with ice thorns)>
Here is a screenshot, also confirmed with new Gloves which do not provide it extra passive points, so not a visual issue.
