Scaling Passive Tree Question

Hi, so I am a warlock and I am trying to find a good build but I don’t know what scailing means or does for spells… Can someone help me out? Thanks !

You aren’t sure what the concept of “scaling” means in LE?

Just like in all other arpgs, skill damage scales (is affected by) with certain stats. Some stats are flat (+x damage) & some are % (+y% damage). Of the % stats, some are additive (all applicable % increased damage modifiers are added together then used to calculate damage) & some are multiplicative (each instance of a multiplicative modifier is applied separately, these are generally more powerful/sought after & have come in smaller numerical packages, every 10% more damage modifier always increases damage by 10%).

Skills scale with stats that match their tags. If a skill has the fire tag, it will benefit from % increased fire damage and increased elemental damage (since this affects fire, cold & lightning). % melee damage will never affect a spell.

I’d suggest you read the in-game game guide on damage.

I have another question. I am level 40 and i am getting wrecked in level 30s zone area and most of my stuff is capped like fire phys poison etc 75% and i don’t know what i’m doing wrong. i’m a warlock.

Assuming this is your character: https://www.lastepochtools.com/profile/MellowFresh/character/FatalBlood

You have pretty low. Resistances, you want to have the resistances at least match the area level if you can’t cap them or you’re taking unnecessary damage.

Seems like you’re going for armor over ward, which takes a bit longer to be as effective, so you need to focus on positioning, boosting your health and armor, and increasing your sustain. Right now your only sustain comes from Rip Blood (and that’s only 10hp per target)

I honestly have no idea what I am doing. I just click and try to read them the best I can. i’m in the game right now and i’m still getting smashed.

His resists aren’t too bad. If he’s in a lvl 30 zone that’s the Imperial era which is predominantly necrotic/phys damage.

However, he has no source of sustain/recovery outside of Rip Blood. Leech from the Warlock passive Spirit Leech would help, aswould seapping his dagger for a caster weapon (ideally a wand or staff for the mana cost reduction).

Each act has 1-2 specific damage types they deal. One deals more void, one deals more poison, one deals more ice, etc. They all deal physical.

So your priority should always be capping physical resistance, since that’s the majority of damage you’ll be taking.
After that, you can try adding some gear to help increase the resistance type of the act you’re in.

Would it be okay if someone showed me where to go to buy better armor? I am in the merchants guild and only level 5 i think. I don’t know what kind of builds go for warlock. i’m annoyed lol.

That’s true. I couldn’t remember where lv 30 was and just remembered Phys and Void being the major damage types for a long time

I mainly play SSF, so my suggestion is to just look for good “bases” that you can forge into what you need. I’m about to be driving so hopefully Llama or DJ can further explain haha

That’s the ruined era which is somewhere up to mid-20s?

You could try asking in-game, I’m currently on the train home… Rares (yellow items with 4 stats) will be sufficient for your needs, and should be cheap since you don’t want anything high level. You just want more useful affixes.
