I’m confused about this. Have been trying to search for an answer, including the in-game guide, but nothing seems to answer this.
Since monsters generally have 0 Armor and 0 Resistances, how does Resistance Shred work, and how does it interact with Penetration? Do they do the same thing, but are additive with each other?
So, if a monster has 0 resist (which supposedly is the common thing), and I have 30 Penetration, then apply 10 stacks of Resist Shred:
0 - 30 - (10 x 5) = -80
The monster takes 30% extra damage from my Penetration, and 50% extra damage from my 10 Shred stacks, totaling 80% increased damage taken. Is this correct?
Yes. Shred & pen are additive with each other. If a mob did have over 75% it would be treated by the game the same as it treats the player’s resists over 75%, ie, shred affects resists before the cap, penetration affects resists after the cap).
Yes, but mobs basically never have over 0% resist from what I understand. So, any potential resistance overcap would more or less only apply to a player, not an enemy, which means you don’t really have to take into account any potential mob resists over 75%.
This means, then, that each stack of resistance shred is a straight 5% damage multiplier, up to 20 stacks. Unless it’s a boss, in which case it’d be 2% up to 20 stacks.
Penetration will just be added on top of this for a further damage multiplier of 1% per Penetration value.
Specific mob types have a certain resist inherently and Monster Affixes (so when they are Magic or Rare) and Monolith Modifier can add additional resistances.
But generally speaking monsters have 0 resistance and armor.
Note though, bosses and palyers have a 60% less effect for shred and other resistance reducing ailmetns (like shock). So its only 2% instead of 5% resistance per stack.
So the maximum amount of negative resistance from shred on bosses and players is 20%
