I am a Japanese player, and I apologize in advance if my English sounds unnatural.
Currently, when the language setting is set to Japanese, the font being used appears to be a Chinese font. As a result, the kanji characters are displayed differently from those commonly used in Japan, which makes the text difficult to read for Japanese players.
I would greatly appreciate it if you could consider adding or switching to a proper Japanese font.
I can imagine this if it’s not using the kanji characters.
Japan does have 3 writing systems in Hirgana, Katakana, and Kanji in which most video games probably use katakana due to the latin based words. I can’t imagine what ‘Foot of the Mountain’ should be? 足の山 山の足跡
Hey there! I can definitely pass this request along. Is there a specific font or font family you’d like us to look at? I’m not too familiar with Japanese fonts (or honestly fonts in general beyond those we use, haha).
I can’t speak for Rashrod23, but in the software company I work at which we have translation services that utilize some specific font in Japanese due to the kanji character being difficult to read ala Japanese vs. Chinese. Some of it is just the boldness or stylized san serif etc. It really does help in the reading depending upon simplified version of whatever Asian language.
Gothic: ゴシック体 → Noto Sans JP
I’m not very knowledgeable about fonts from a technical standpoint, but fonts that are explicitly labeled with “JP”, such as Noto Sans JP or Noto Serif JP, appear to include the kanji forms that are commonly used in Japan.
These fonts also seem to be widely adopted in other games, so I believe they would be safe and reliable choices.
I understand that the number of Japanese players may be relatively small, but I truly appreciate your willingness to support this.
