Regular crashes preventing me from playing

I am experiencing consistent crashing and am unable to play the game without them happening. I’ve been kinda holding off to see if EHG may acknowledge the problem, but have not seen that happen yet. (Not a job at EHG, I am fully aware of just how busy they are!) So figured I would make a full detailed report with all appropriate files requested, and more suggested by wick3d, another user on the forums.

Crash details: When the crashes happen, both of my monitors will go straight to black, GPU will kick the fans higher (but not as high as possible, just a bit higher) and the sound from the game will often linger for 5-15 seconds before going quiet and I cannot recover my PC without powering off using the power button. The first crash was after about an hour of gameplay on launch, the next 3 crashes were all about 30-45 minutes apart, and then I had one session that went for about 1.5 hours with no issues, and then the most recent crash was after about 10-15 minutes into a new session. (Times are all estimates to the best of my recollection)

I was also monitoring Task Manager very closely and holding a VERY stable 68-72 degree temp. Tried lowering graphics as well down to Medium across the board once with the very same crash results, and zero visible spikes or problems before the crash hits. Restored my graphics to usual highest quality when I found out that wasn’t the issue.

Have confirmed this doesn’t happen with other games. Diablo 3, which uses about the same amount of power, and Satisfactory, which uses a little more, and even LE before the patch was flawless.

Really driving me crazy as I very badly want to play the new patch! So here are some of the files I hope can help pinpoint something that may help EHG!

Note, I am certain that if I play another session, the crash will happen again, so if there are more recent log files needed, please feel free to request them!

Log Files:
Player.log (59.6 KB)
Player-prev.log (223.4 KB)

A .zip of the crash files from Local/Temp/Eleventh Hour Games/Last Epoch/Crashes:
Crashes.zip (287.2 KB)

My DxDiag:
DxDiagLE.txt (109.0 KB)

And finally, here is what my graphics manager reads:
ConfigVersion = 3
MasterQuality = Ultra
TerrainQuality = Ultra
ShadowQuality = Ultra
DetailShadows = true
HBAO Quality = Ultra
SetHX = Ultra
Reflections = Ultra
ScreenSpaceReflections = Ultra
GrassDensity = Full
antialiasingMode = TAA
ColorGradingIntensity = Medium
vertical Sync = Off
StreamerMode = false
LimitForegroundFPS = true
MaxForegroundFPS = 60
LimitBackgroundFPS = true
MaxBackgroundFPS = 30
SelectedMonitor = 0
ScreenMode = MaximizedWindow
Resolution = 3840x2160

Please let me know if there is anything else I can do or provide that may help lead to a solution here, as I am dying to keep going.

Thank you for all your hard work, EHG, and I am so excited to see more in the future!

Hi NETHROM,

I have approximativly sames crashes. Often means 10 in a day when I farm like a fool :D.
I don’t have same configuration like yours but I’m trying something right now. I opened task manager and GPU monitor. I seen VRAm was 7.8GO on 8GO used with very High master quality.
I’m playing with very low master quality and VRAm is at 3.1GO. No crash for the moment, I’m playing since 1 hour, maybe a bit more.
I hope it will help you or maybe give you a way to find a solution.

Take care of you. :slight_smile:

PS: Very Low Master quality after 3hours ok.
10mn in medium Master quality = crash while loading map in echo.

Hope this issue gets addressed… I cant play the game with exactly the same issue, posted in Bug reports, LE subreddit… no address from the devs yet.

I did eventually end up being annoying and tagging EHG_Steve on Reddit here and he confirmed the report is seen and it’s on the list to be worked on, so now just a waiting game for the patch notes that free us!

That’s amazing, Thanks a lot man. Hope this issue is solved soon, its so frustrating I stopped trying to play LE and went back to PD2 …

Hey fellas - some people who have experienced crashes find it is resolved by:

I hope one of these works for you

Thank you for the info! Definitely made sure I had the latest drivers, but I just went ahead and got a different graphics card so cannot try the deleting graphics ini file. Hopefully works for some others!

No problemo. Clearly there are some bugs, but im hoping workarounds can get people gaming in the meantime

If youre still experiencing the issuw, you can also try verifying game file integrity through Steam.

That worked for some other people :slight_smile:

Hey there.

Looking through your provided log files I see some things that COULD indicate why you are having instability. These are not definitive reasons but they tend to hint at where particular problems may occur.

Failed to create agent because it is not close enough to the NavMesh
d3d11: failed to create staging 2D texture w=128 h=2 d3dfmt=10 [887a0005]
D3D11: Failed to create RenderTexture (3840 x 2160 fmt 27 aa 1), error 0x887a0005

The three errors above are usually related to Graphics Drivers & Quality Settings in game. They were common errors found in logs with people having crashes.

With a recent GPU driver confirmed (and clean installed not upgraded), then a quick way to test in-game settings it to drop the settings and see if stability improves. I would suggest dropping it to Very Low at your resolution and seeing if that makes any difference after a while of play. If it does, then that normally indicates that LE is struggling on your system due to various factors. (See below for other potential causes).

Your Crash logs also reference a few other Null reference errors - but those could be any number of other “normal” bugs that may, imho, not contribute to crashes specifically.

Looking at your Dxdiag I also see a few issues that could be related to your problems.

The diagnostic section - at the end of the file - shows:

  1. At least 2 bluescreens with code references that could have something to do with system memory - unfortunately its hard to tell exactly due to the lack of MS reference on all the various BS codes but a quick google seems to indicate something to do with memory. It may be worth doing some system level tests to see if your hardware is actually ok (e.g. memtest etc). There may also be failed updates or something on the OS (check event viewer), maybe even a memory chip is not seated properly or something?

  2. 4 crashes of dwm.exe - this is the Windows Desktop Manager component of windows - it handles hardware accelleration and various other graphics on the OS. Having crashes on this exe is usually a sign that something isnt happy on your PC. Most times its usually GPU drivers that were not installed properly (i.e. clean install vs upgrade) but it can also indicate some other issue with corrupt system files etc. I recommend running Windows SFC. dwm.exe crashes can also indicate a potential problem with your GPU - although its usually driver related.

also have a crashes every 1-3 maps
always with this unity window

Crashes.zip (1.3 MB)

deleting graphics ini file doesnt help
updating windows and videocard drivers doesnt help too.

I tried everything still its crashing my PC, thought it was HW related but ONLY LE does this… time to go back to Grim dawn/POE … hope the devs do something before 1.0. See you around my guys

Experiencing the Unity window crashes probably after 20-30 maps.
Reinstalled latest drivers and windows is up to date.
Path of Exile and Diablo 4 run without crashing issues on my set up. In terms of newer games I am playing the remastered Resident Evil 4 just fine.

Not sure if this is useful for EHG, but I got a new graphics card (Was on 3080, got the 4070ti instead) and the problem has completely disappeared. So it was almost definitely GPU related for me, which I think we all kind of suspected, but can confirm for me, at least, that was the case.

Same here. Random hard crashes that fully freeze my computer and I have to restart the PC via the power button on the case.
This does not happen to me in any other game. The Graphics card I use is Raden 6800 XT.
Pretty sad as I lost two hardcore characters because of this.

Yeah this is what I’m suspecting also. Some combination of Last Epoch, Unity, graphics driver and hardware dont play nice.

From other reports on the forums, these crashes often link back to memory access violations or hangs/crashes in driver modules.

Fortunately, EHG has just patched one leak and apparently have more in the works.

Windows Error Reports which reference driver DLLs generally get fed back to the vendors as part of WHQL testing, so stability will improve over time.

Guys i got it!!! I have found the solution!!! Get refunded and go play something else. It worked for me guys OMG!!!

I have completely eliminited this issue, by downloading MSI afterburner and underclocked my GPU! put around 80% max clock value… Hope it helps
