I dug up some old threads and found out that the ‘%chance to proc meteor on crit’ effect does not count towards ‘%mana spent gained as ward’ and other similar effects.
My question is: does it count towards ‘%less damage taken for each meteor cast recenty’?
If not, what exact is the upside of this proc? To me this is just a net negative, and the tooltip should clarify these issues as most people will think this is a positive effect. I baited myself into scaling crit chance to try proc this effect but it now feels like a mistake, as it just seems to be burning all my mana and casting meteors when I don’t necessarily want them.
It should, if it’s worded that way. If it says “directly cast” then it won’t.
It’s to use another skill like lightning blast to proc meteors for you. Tipically you use a 0 cost skill like lightning blast to trigger it so that all mana is spent on fireball. So you do 2 skills’ worth of damage with just one.
I used this for my sorc last season. My opinion there is no upside benefit. Its lit useless because when it procs it uses meteors cost, which is meant to be cast with teleport for the free mana cost, or purely through black hole with teleport for no mana cost.
This in practice ends up leading to running out of mana when you dont expect and whiping.
I think I will still use it for now but in my opinion it is poorly designed.
It should either:
Cost no mana
Function with ‘on mana spent’ stats.
It seems like more of a negative to me which is fine (items with downsides can be good design), but ‘% mana spent gained as ward’ should be reworded to specifically say ‘on direct spells’.
