Question about dot conversion

I was reading a guide and a question popped into my head about some of the nodes that convert damage or ailment types. I’m going to use a rogue example, but I’ve seen similar passives/skill nodes on my primalist, so I figured this might be a better place to post it.

In my case, the Umbral blades node “Emerald Cutlass” says that it “converts bleed chance from ALL sources to poison chance and effects related to bleed chance now depend on poison chance”.

Does this bonus only apply to umbral blades, or doe does it also apply to gear? For example, if I have a weapon with “chance to bleed”, is that converted to “chance to poison” on hit?

Does this also mean that effects like “Gain damage against bleeding enemies” now means “Gain damage against poisoned enemies”?

Skill nodes only apply to the skill unless otherwise stated. If that effect were on a passive or item then it would apply to everything. As far as Umbral Blades is concerned, all sources of Bleed chance are treated as sources of Poison chance. This does not apply to Bleed duration or Bleed effectiveness (if it existed).

And yes, the Bloody Trail node would give bonuses per poison on the target rather than per bleed.

The “convert from all sources” does convert all the chances from everything, including the tree itself and from gear/passives etc.

The “effect depending on bleed now depend on poison” part is only for the Umbral Blade Tree itself.
Any node in Umbral blade, that does have a condition of “against bleeding targets” or “per stack of bleed” etc. will now rely on the target being poisoned or havign poison stacks.

This is how all of these kind of nodes work.
There are a couple of nodes that specifically only convert ailemt/damage X to Y from the skill tree and not from “all sources”, but this is explicitly state in the tooltip of that node then.

To give you an example for this scenario:
Supercharged Floes from Lightning Blast (Mage) does say "Lightning Blast now has a chance to freeze and its base lightning damage is converted to cold damage […}.
Shock chance from this tree is converted to chill chance.

This means, that adaptive spell dmg would add Cold damage to LB, because the skill gets converted. Burt if you add any Flat X Spell Damage, it does not convert.

There are also skill conversions that convert the base dmg and all added damage, like “Subzero Intrusion” for Umbral Blades or even some skills have this property baseline, like Detonating Arrow. (And all of its conversions convert everything)

For these skills all sources get converted, even if you have an affix that explicitly stated “+X fire throwing damage”, this would still convert with Umbral Blades “Subzero Intrusion”

One more thing to note here is, that things like “x% increased bleed effect/duration” would not get converted to “%inc. poison effect/duration”

Good stuff, thanks everyone!

I have to say, Umbral blades and Shuriken are both super fun to play, especially with sword thrower and shadows duplicating your moves. Chakram hits pretty hard also, but I eventually dropped that as it felt like too much overlap with Umbral blades.
