I think it would be generally accepted as a small yet satisfying change to the whole community and future players. Please consider adding commas to the floating damage numbers, as this is visually more satisfying(the commas are significant as hitting a new dmg threshould i.e. crits that as you get stronger increase from being in the 100’s 1,000s, 10,000,s 100,000s, so on. There is another dopamine drip to be had with increases commas, very much in the same way seeing more zeroes.
So the second suggestion is displaying player level with the display player name options. And its apparent ya’ll are a fan of recolor… maybe let us recolor our names? or perhaps leave that up to ya’ll, if no one has mentioned it we (playerbase) are fans of the recoloring.
Also tho “easy implementation” refereed mostly to the commas more than the level as in adding commas to the floating dmg number scripts should be like mentioned, easy.
This is gonna be one of “those” kinds of requests because, while it may seem obvious to some, it suffers from a similar issue to language e.g. British English Vs American English in terms of spelling etc.
Some countries and standards even assume that the comma is considered the decimal point deliminator - in others its a full stop - so adding commas could also conflict with players norms in those regions.
Personally, I dont attribute any dopamine link to the existance of commas in numerical values - never even considered that. At most I liked the K, M values that Diablo used to use to truncate. Nothing more. In fact, my country (South Africa) uses both a space and comma to differentiate thousands etc in large numbers and its basically got to the point where its personal or an industry based choice because no-one has agreed to follow any one ISO standard. On top of it, there are constantly arguments with the use of commas or full stops for decimals too. It is a royal mess - like most things South African unfortunately.
So… I dont personally think we need this in LE… but am not bothered either way. My view would be that LE simply picks something and sticks with it consistently across the entire game.
thanks for your input, i never considered some of that. Besides the tiny dopamine (ya know written with a grain of salt) but really the only practical reason beyond preference is, sometimes the numbers stack on top of each other and I see something Like this 5021910821
, obviously thats 2-3+ crits on top of each other. Thanks for your reply
I mean, there is a way to hook into the regional format in use on the OS. But, why would we ever do that?
I’ve also seen games that have you choose the numerical format you wish to display in-game, in the Options menu. Kind of how most games with chat, allow you to pick the timestamp format.
Nope, the comma is the thousand separator in both British and American English. It’s only when you get to the likes of the French & Germans (those poor benighted souls who don’t know what a proper thousand separator is or why a decimal point is called a decimal point) that things start going awry.
They could, however, “just” use the player’s system settings for this, or failing that, have an option for whether to use a comma, decimal point or (shudder) a space as the thousand separator.
I do. Trust me, it’s a f###ing ballache when trying to use spreadsheets or data from foreign sources who do it wrong.
It’s not a full stop if it’s used as a decimal point. Perhaps there would be less confusion if you used the correct name?
Its called the system locale setting. Most apps just draw it automatically from the OS if they bother with this kind of thing but its usually ignored because even today, devs can forget that their app may be used worldwide.
Pedantic Accountant… Should have known you would clarify.
You can add South Africans to your list of benighted souls… by law we are supposed to follow the same ISO standard as you Brits, but the powers that be cannot even coordinate enough to teach it correctly in the public school system. The average student (sorry, they have to be called ‘learners’ here) uses commas for everything and its enough to drive you mad.
And you come try describing the issue with a decimal point vs a full stop in my neck of the woods…
TBH too many commas and zeros is bad from a screen real estate point of view. I’d prefer to use the standard order of magnitude abbreviations; k, M, etc.
