Right now to know for sure with what element monster is attacking us we have no choice but… to die. It’s important for things like preparing for boss fight, Nemesis and especially HC mode.
In Sacred 2 monsters had it’s dmg (and defense) type shown near HP bar. Not only that, you could check dmg/def type and it’s numerical values from user menu for last killed enemy.
Diablo II displayed dmg type from special effects on characters like for example small poison smoke etc.
In the end the method of displaying doesn’t matter that much, as long as it’s obvious at first glance. In my opinion the HP bar metod would be the best, because it’s simple. Here’s link to my screenshots for clarity: https://imgur.com/a/dqs91k2

Or pay attention to the colours of the mob’s attack, they’ll match the colours of the resistances on the character screen with the exception of yelliw which is lightning.
But yes, it was relatively simple for S2 & worked well.
