Possible unique idols?

Hello ! I’m fairly new to the game and so far i’m having an absolute great time. I just wanted to create a topic talking about possibly having unique idols in the game. While I do enjoy the system, i feel like it could be slightly more expanded upon by having idols that don’t just modify damage values or defense etc (maybe there are some in the game that I haven’t found sorry if that is the case). For exemple let’s take a skill (like flame ward) and have a unique idol that makes it a permanant buff BUT you don’t gain ward anymore with it, making you spec into the damage side of the skill tree. I know it’s not a good exemple but you get the idea. If anyone has a good unique idol idea please feel free to discuss it here. Thank you for your time.

I’m against. There are already lots of very useful unique items. The unique idols, in my opinion, would be entering a quantitative deluge, which gives short term pleasure, but which takes us away from a moderate item design.

Ohhh, and maybe even incorporate said ‘unique’ or ‘legendary’ Idols into the upcoming Eternity Cache System to add a further layer of complexity into how they are obtained.

Obviously these items would likely create further balancing headaches for the team, but they “sound” cool, at the very least.

Its an interesting idea but I am not certain how well it could work right now. As it were the odds of getting great idols for any particular build is rare. Add to the pool and the farming for them will get much worse. In most cases right now idols make and break builds. The difference between and Arena 35 character and an Arena 150+ character can sit almost solely in idols. Ultimately they need to address the current idol system before adding more complexity to it.

I can see the downsides but perhaps this should be viewed as a long-term goal?

I see where you are coming from, but i don’t think that this would be a particular great.

There are already pretty “unique” idols(e.g. Shield Throw converted to Void Damage from Sentinel)

And with the system already in place, the chance of getting good idols(and then even good rolls) is already pretty low.

I know denying item variety because of the fear that certains affixes/items of same categorie become too rare is kinda counterintuitive, i still think that the current idols system already has enough variety.

There are already so many layers to character customization and im a big fan of creating new venues for even mroe customization. But making one system’s variety too “wide” can feel tedious.

That is actually a brilliant idea. Would mitigate the fact that it might be unbalanced or too rare to even consider implementing.

I did think about this too (currently trying to find my end-game idols and it’s not easy). What I was thinking about with those unique idols was a bit like celestial powers in Grim Dawn if that rings a bell. Kind of adding a unique trait on a specific skill (like chance to have a thunderbolt spawn on an enemy hit by lightning blast). At the moment we are speaking it would cause massive balance issues and the idol system is already good enough, but as sugested in an above reply it could be implemented later as part of the eternity cache system. All in all it was just a random idea but it’s good to see different point of views on the pros/cons.
