Think it’s possible to pre-build a new Acolyte, but not spec a mastery until Wednesday. Then unload points into Warlock after 1.0 goes live and the new masteries open up.
Not that I’ve kept up 100% on the news, but I believe the cycle (season) starts on Wednesday, so you may be able if you’re playing legacy (eternal) but not the cycle since you start over brand new. I’m also leaning towards warlock myself though not decided yet.
Yes it is possible if you are ok with playing that character in Legacy Cycle.
Just go through the story until End of Times where you select your mastery. Do not choose any mastery.
Either park that character there or levle a bit more.
There’s a twitch streamer (AaronARPG I think is his name) that got an acolyte to 90 without picking a mastery. I’m not sure how he did it or if he has all his passives but he did it. I’m rather new so I don’t know what the trick is. Maybe just went straight to Monos at the point you would pick a mastery and just grinded it out? Had friends power him in monos possibly?
Not choosing a mastery just means you don’t get the skill/passive for that mastery and the right side of the tree. You can continue to allocate passives to the rest of the trees, though, and you have almost all skills available, so it’s not that hard.
Personally, I wouldn’t do this, but that’s because I like the leveling process. I like to spec into my build as early as possible and to watch it grow. But it shouldn’t be that hard to level any class without speccing into mastery.
Appreciate all the input. I don’t have any plans to play the leaderboard so I don’t see any real reason to play the cycle. That is if I’m understanding all the comments about the cycle and how it will play out vs legacy. I was mainly wondering if I started a character today if it would still be “warlock-capable” after 1.0 goes live, or if a new post 1.0 character would be needed to make Warlock an option. Cheers to 1.0!
You can’t put any points in mastery trees if you haven’t picked a mastery.
I don’t see any reason why that shouldn’t be the case, as long as you don’t select the mastery.
Yes, you are right, I overlooked that point. That means you can still probably grind to high levels, just not as easy. Shouldn’t be much of an issue getting to the 50s, though.
If you’re playing cycle then you’ll have to start a completely fresh character. If you are playing on legacy, then you can level an acolyte to whatever level you want now and be able to make him a warlock at the start of 1.0 BUT you can’t pick the mastery yet. Stay an acolyte until 1.0. If you have an acolyte that’s already a necro or lich then you’ll have to start a fresh one.
