Did that quest echo twice in the last hour. Both times there was one event where a very large number of enemies spawned and there was a noticeable drop in fps. Game runs smooth without issues (3060ti, 5600x, …) except in this case.
Hey…
The game is obviously in beta & generally unoptimised… One of the primary drops in performance is caused by a large number of mobs (or even minions) - especially if the mobs are each proccing separate skills or your attacks hit all/many of them at the same time…
There is not really much that you can do - sometimes limiting the FPS to give your GPU a little more headroom in busy moments can prevent the spike being big… e.g. I have found that if I limit the game to 100fps (GPU close to 100% usage), then I may get as much as a 60fps spike… but if I limit it to 60fps, then the spike might only be 20fps ish… Subjectively, I notice the 20fps drop far less than 60fps drop…
Obivously you will also see performance improvement if you drop a setting or two… especially if you are playing in the higher qualities… imho, there is a noticeable improvement in performance if you drop from Ultra to High but visually not that much difference… Similar from High to Low.
Once the devs commit to dealing with performance (probably when the content & multiplayer is more complete) then hopefully things like this will be less of an issue.
Yes i can make a bug report.
The game runs smooth except for one event in this quest echo. I played for ten hours in the last two days and had two fps drops which were both at the same event in the same quest echo. So there is clearly an issue in that particular event.
I didn’t say it breaks the game or needs to be fixed asap but it is clearly an issue that should be tracked and be dealt with at some time. If that happens through general improvements at a later time or reduction of the number of spawns in that particular event doesn’t really matter.
I don’t know if it is actually helpful but knowing where exactly an issue occurs and being able to reproduce it means you have a place to test a fix.
Sure you can make a bug report and sure you can highlight where its happening for you…
My response is more general and perhaps to let you know, in a roundabout way, that what you are experiencing is common and not only restricted to that particular location…
Interestingly, for me at least, that location has no real issues - at least not to the level you are describing…
Its definitely performance optimisation related - and the devs are aware of these issues.
The specific cause of the fps spikes could be anything from a lot of mobs/minons, lots of skill procs (a skill doing a screen wipe will spike fps vs one that hits a few mobs), map location, in-game settings on specific hardware or even any combination of them.
Anyway…
