Poison has been monstrously nerfed from .8.5 to .9

" * Poison

  • Only the first 30 stacks on a target reduce poison resistance (from every stack)
  • Deals 28 base damage (from 20)
  • Sources of increased Poison Effect have been replaced by Poison Penetration with Poison"

Ok so before the patch I had a character that was hitting for a few hundred thousand on target dummies with poison, this is with just a few hits btw

Using synchronized strike ( which btw LE has nerfed as well as it no longer shotguns )

It’s not much compared to some of the min/maxed versions I saw where someone else got like… over a few million?

Okay so I started a Rogue in .9 and I noticed it’s been feeling pretty damn awful

I went back on my offline lvl 96 character today
I sat on top of the dummies, not just a small dmg attempt…

I stacked AS MANY poisons as I possibly could and used all my buffs
I didn’t rely on synchronized strike, I just sat under the target dummy and SPAMMED my shuriken skill

My damage after the .9 patch? capped out around 44-50k per tick

Wow… that is a MASSIVE nerf

I don’t see why anyone would even bother playing a poison build now… the archetype is ruined

You guys claimed it’s buffed but that’s just not true in the slightest

Just wanted to warn anyone else thinking about playing a poison build… unsure if it’s bugged but holy shit it feels like garbage right now

Poison feels like it has been nerfed by over 70%

Doesn’t surprise me at all. Poison was super strong only because of the crazy amount of reduce poison resist. My flurry poison dagger rogue gets around 230 stacks of poison. So it when from -1150% poison resist to -150%. Prior to patch it was doing around 25000+ a tick now does just over 50k. So yes monstrous nerf check. But hey its inline with the other dots now…

I’ve not played LE in around a year but I was always excited to play a poison build. The OP’s comment does not sound promising now, damn…how is its dmg compared to basically every other spec/build in the game?
Or do you all feel like it’s not worth it now?

The thing is that poison before was ridiculously overpowered. The nerf is absolutely necessary and was 100% foreseeable.

Ailments in general were balanced with this patch so hopefully all are closer together in terms of damage potential.

The number difference from builds pre 0.9 compared to now may seem huge. But you have to keep in mind where you’ve come from: a broken and outstanding damage potential.

Imho you can still build strong poison builds. But its not a nobrainer like just stack skill x and some poison affixes and melt eveeything right away. You have to min/max and work for your build.

Time will tell if the nerf was too hard. The change has to settle a bit.

Its like going from a 30°C swimming pool to a 20°C pool. The difference in temperature feels uncomfortable. But if you actually try to swim, you get comfortable with and realise that you can swim in the colder water as well :slightly_smiling_face:.

In other words: Welcome to the real world, you lazy poison exploiters!!1 :grin:

They didn’t. The base damage was buffed but capping the per stack shred was absolutely required. Poison was way too powerful and if there’d been more than one poison Rogue in a party every boss at every level would have been killed almost instantly.

I never even really got a chance to play with poison much at all. Was too focused on meteor mage earlier but the Spriggin build and Flurry build looked fun.
I’ll take people’s word for it that it was too powerful. Just hope the nerfs weren’t overboard like I find, imo, GGG tends to do when they nuke a skill from orbit.

It really was. Poison Umbral Blades could do phenomenal amounts of damage per tick.

IMO, no, probably not, it’s just a big change from how brutally OP it was before.

I have a suspicion that almost nothing has changed for this combination.

It has, the damage has been significantly reduced. While the total number of stacks remains the same, only the first 30 of >>100 stacks are reducing the target’s resist. It’s a significant reduction, like ~70-95%.

In my version, I did not much exceed 30 stacks. I just checked, the damage on dummy +/- is the same.

i do 130 stacks +/-

If you’re doing 130 stacks then the damage will have been reduced to about 24% of what it was based on the resist shred cap before taking into account the base damage buff, which is a 1.4x modifier → ~33% of the previous damage? Ish?

To be honest, for some reason, now i do 220k/tick instead of 180k/tick before the patch.

It seemed to me that cup stacks were introduced earlier, and basic damage was added in this patch.

What’s that in English?

But no, there were no changes to poison after 0.8.5f & before 0.9.

Sry - cap

Maybe I’m confusing something.

I use 2 shadows and one dagger.
Maybe if I used 4 shadows and 2 daggers, the difference would be more noticeable.
But 200k/tick seems to me a pretty comfortable damage.

It is, it’s not bad just the high end is significantly lower than it used to be (like, 1-2 orders of magnitude).
