I feel much of the music is 1: Not a good fit for the area it plays in 2: Too tame for action combat(in fact being better as a town theme) 3: Not particularly memorable(as many of these themes I have to look up WHERE they play)
This is an example, though it IS memorable and it does fit the forest theme, it is too tame for the fact that it plays during combat, the youtube link on this goes to the playlist. I will refer to songs by name from now on.
Of the 21 tracks on the PLAYLIST, the ones that fit action combat(ignoring town themes and main theme) only include: Beak and Talon(area event theme), Setting sun(boss theme), Emporers remains(boss),Shade of Orobyss(boss), majasa boss fight(boss, duh), Lower Temple of Majasa(area theme), Crystal mines(area theme), Upper temple of Majasa(area theme), Tomb of Morditas(event theme), Eagle theme(event theme), Ulatri Cliffs(area theme)
this is 12 out of 21 from the playlist, a rather low hit rate and also most are event or boss themes. And these are the handpicked standout tracks of the OST, not many of the area themes are on this playlist.
I do agree that music often does not fit with the action.
But I really love the game’s music. For me, they are a very pleasant part of the campaign, and when I play in the Monolith I always keep the music.
I dont mind the soundtrack purely from a musical appreciation aspect and might fire up the OST in the background while I am doing something else, but I must admit that I generally disable music when in the game. I play the LE sound track just like I would the vast number of musical complilations on Youtube like https://www.youtube.com/c/ThePrimeCronus etc…
I understand that music is a very important part of any game but quite honestly I dont find that it matches the actual gameplay… its not like the climax in a movie where the hero is battling the villan and I find it odd sometimes when the music is all calm and mellow but you are sweating through a tough battle in game…
I really enjoy the music in this game, it’s been getting better and better with each patch. I don’t recall hearing any that didn’t fit combat though, there are some odd ones while you’re in town but they aren’t unpleasant to listen to.
Try running through a monolith, count the number of times in a row you get an area that has a theme that sounds like it would fit perfectly for a town area.
I guess I don’t fully pay attention to monos, I usually watch TV while running them and pay more attention in town when I’m actually making decisions on something. I do have music on and volume relatively low, I’ll see if I notice anything now.
That being said, some of their music like the character selection/starting screen one I think it was, is amazing.
You’re 100% right, I raised the volume up through some random monos and noticed what sounds exactly like calm, town music. Doesn’t fit the mono at all…I mean my current character is going through monos like a stroll in the park but I figure in reality that probably wouldn’t be fitting.
