Please give the Summon Wolf Companion/Minion the 'Lightning' Tag!

Hey EHG!

I’m cooking up a meme build at the moment - the idea is very simple:
Scale Tempest Strike’s Lightning Penetration you get from the “Stormriding Companions” Node, by having as many Lightning Companions as possible.
I’m currently doing that with 4 Storm Crows, but 4 Wolves (transformed into 8 squirrels!!!) would be incredibly funny,

Sadly though, the Summon Wolves Minion lack the ‘Lightning’ Tag to make this happen. However, Summon Wolves clearly has some Lightning Vibe going on on it’s Skill Tree (see all the different Storm Bolt / Lightning Nodes).

EDIT: As discussed below, Wolves DO get the Lightning Tag after picking up the Lightning related nodes, even if isn’t specified on the skill tree.
However, notably, the squirrels from the unique item “Herald of the Scurry” do not inherit this Lightning Minion Tag, and do not work with Tempest Strike’s “Stormriding Companion” Node.
That’s a bit sad.

From memory Wolves do get the lightning tag if you take the lightning nodes (Storm Caller’s Reprisal or Stormborn).

I assumed not, since I didn’t see anything on the Skill Nodes about the Tag, but I’ll test it out, brb

You were right!
The wolves indeed gain the ‘Lightning’ tag upon taking the lightning nodes!

Thanks! I’ll try with the squirrels soon, I just gotta farm for one of the squirrel helmets.

Yup, they can get the cold tag in addition to the phys & lightning ones as well.

Okay, I just tested the squirrels from Herald of the Scurry, and it seems like they do NOT inherit the Lightning Minion Tag from the Wolves, which is very sad. The extra penetration does not seem to apply here.

That sounds like a bug then. Do they retain the lightning-y gfx from the nodes? Could you use the in-game bug report.

It’s not a bug, the squirrels keel the cold & lightning tags & can proc storm bolts on hit, just tested it, it’s all good. They just don’t get the cold gfx that the wolves get when you spawn them. They quite happily get you up to & keep you at 16 stacks of Storm Stack.

But have you also tested using Tempest Strike with the “Stormriding Companions” Node and checked the damage when using a group of supposed Lightning Squirrels?

I tested 0 companions vs 10 Lightning Squirrels, and couldn’t tell any difference in damage from specifically the Lightning Combo Strike of Tempest Strike. Theoretically, 10 Squirrels should equate to 30% Lightning Penetration with Tempest Strike, which should see a proper damage increase of AT LEAST 25% I reckon…

Hm, I hope my testing wasn’t flawed in some way.

With no Storm Crows I was getting 890 damage per hit from the Lightning proc, with 3 Crows I was getting 953 which is a 7% increase which is a bit less than the 9% I’d have expected. With 6 Squirrels or 3 Wolves I was getting 919 damage which is even less than the 18%/9% I would have expected.

I’ve reported it via the in-game bug report.
