Please explain Shield Rush

I’m genuinely confused about Shield Rush. I’ve been looking through other threads, it sounds like there are some bugs about going through walls, but that’s not what I’m asking about.

I am not clear how it’s intended to work. Sometimes I have a mob targeted and it rushes into them and bumps them. That’s what I thought it should do. Other times, though, it will run across the entire map, which is actually kind of funny, but I can’t imagine was intended?

Then there are times I intend to use it for movement and it just does a little bunny hop barely a few steps forward. That also doesn’t seem like it’s intended but maybe?

Possibly I’m just doing something wrong or misunderstanding the intent of the skill.

What should happen is that the skill continues until you release the key (unlike Lunge) or it hits an obstacle (not a mob). However,

  • it doesn’t seem to regard walls with doors in them as “obstacles”,
  • it doesn’t gradients

If you tap the key, it’ll go forward a tiny amount then stop.
