First off, let me start by saying that I sincerely LOVE Last Epoch!! It has been my companion for the last month and it will remain to be for the next 6 weeks (knee surgery recovery). I have enjoyed arpgs for decades and I totally understand RNG…but gambling in LE, in its current state, is desperately dysfunctional.
I have been after a Smoke Weaver, an Eye of Reen and Li’raka’s Claws for a month! Millions of gold, every spare coin, has been dumped into this gambler and I can’t even get him to spawn a POIGNARD–that’s right, I can’t even get the guy to offer the BASE ITEM that has a CHANCE to roll as a Smoke Weaver! That is broken!
The same is happening with katanas for Eye of Reen and engraved gauntlets for Li’raka’s Claws. PLEASE devs take a look at your systems regarding gambling and adjust the numbers or at the very least raise the drop rates for such items when out in the world adventuring. No gambling percentages should be this lousy, especially for a game still in EA/figuring itself out—give us the tools to enjoy our specs and your beloved game to its fullest! That is all, thanks for all your hard work!
This is funny to me. I think the complete opposite. It’s way to easy with gambler to get all the unique I want. I gambled so many Reens on SSF by mistake and sold them back lol.
Yea, it sucks when this happens. It’s the age old question of normalized random systems versus nearly random systems. I’m kinda making up terms here but what I mean is. The difference between having a system with a check to make sure a bad roll doesn’t happen repeatedly or not.
We have gotten feedback like this on our crafting system too. To the point that I’ve gone back to check the algorithm several times to make absolutely sure it’s actually working as intended. (It is working as expected.)
Currently we don’t do anything to balance out the random artificially. It’s possible that we should be but as it stands, it is technically possible for any specific base item to just never appear by pure chance.
In general, we aren’t really happy with the state of the gambler. It was created in its current form as a bit of a stop gap for target farming. It’s not perfect by any means. We do have plans to improve the overall experience of item acquisition and build crafting. Sometimes these plans take a long time to be realized though so it will happen in stages over the course of several patches.
Is it intentional when refreshing the gambler’s wares that 1 maybe 2 times out of 100 a Poignard appears?
I mean, how can one even “gamble” if the base does not even show up?
Do certain base items show up more based on the class you are playing?
*May I recommend that you make target item gambling easier/more approachable during Beta. I feel like there should not be such vast walls in place for one to acquire target uniques, especially build defining ones during a beta. I really want to try out specific builds (i.e speedweaver w/ a Smoke Weave)r but it is nearly impossible due to these limitations. You can always revert the percentages back down for official release of course and by doing this it allows us players to test the items in turn providing valuable feedback for LE.
Gambling is pretty easy. For example I tried to gamble the “Plague bearer’s staff” and got one once every third filled inventory more or less. Yes my sample size is low because I only gambled 5 of them.
On the other hand I gambled for “Taste of Blood” onehanded axes and it hurt. the first 10 filled items there was nothing, then 2 back to back and another 2 in the next 10 filled inventories.
I gambled both weapons while I was in the levelrange to get them. I tried to get “Hell Reach” for testing on a higher level toon and ended up making a new one just to be in the level range for getting the base more often. That’s a big issue when the base item isn’t in the level req. range of the unique.
I agree with you on the Smoke weaver gamble. My rate for finding a Base Poignard at the gambler was 2 out of 150 rerolls…and after that i didnt bother, as that could have ended up costing me several millions to get a unique one.
However I find most other Uniques decently easy to gamble.
I been blessed and cursed by gambler. I can say for me personally it’s pretty 50/50 success/failure to get what I want. There is many times where the base I want shows up twice every reroll then I get a wave of rerolling going 10 or 15 without seeing it.
I never been a fan of gambler but it does make SSF tolerable. I hope in the future we have a better system for target farming bases/uniques we need so SSF experience is batched especially on hardcore. I use gambler the MOST for filling out resistances before going into a zone. I would really have rework how I would play if that wasn’t an option anymore.
Yes it is extremely low. base Poignards not showing up feels like a bug tbh. What is really frustrating atm is gambling for Eye of Reen and Li’raka’s Claws because the bases are WIDELY available at the gambler yet I cannot gamble one up!
I will voice my opinion here. I honestly think it’s way too easy to obtain specific uniques via the Gambler. The Gambler has no complexity or strategy behind it. It’s simply farm gold, shift + right click, and pray to RNGjesus. I am all for the Gambler but perhaps there needs to be a more intuitive method or concept associated with it. As of now, it’s just too simple and well… boring :x
Found two Smoke Weavers today, already was wearing one… Li’raka’s Claws I try gambling for, but it´s no fun, tedious and frustrating.
I sincerely hope, that trading will make it a tad bit easier to aquire certain items.
Raises the question, whether if it will be necessary to Set & Uniques items later on…
They won’t be worthless, since the person buying them on the AH will be paying for the convenience of not having to gamble for them & the seller is basically selling their time (at the gambler).
That’s true. I just assumed everything that could be gambled could be traded. They could also do a major gambling overhaul when they implement trading for that reason.
I was being a bit hyperbolic in saying “worthless”. Wasn’t meant literally. The ubiquity of the items will make them worth very little. People gamble a lot for good rare bases to craft and that increases the supply of the random unique that gets gambled in the process.
I hope everything is tradable. The restrictions for trading and the panic of people who fear to miss something is something pretty strange for me. Even today people play D2 where trading is the easiest thing to do.
The ammount of lowlevel bases that are offered are a bit rare yes. We have a lot of space left in the gambler window why not use it? Just make every refresh a cross-section of all bases in the levelrange of the toon who is gambling. I don’t talk about getting every base every time but the possibility to make even low level stuff available more often because we have enough space left.
