Howzit all.

Loving and love being addicted to this game :grinning:

Just 2 things :

  1. Can Maelstrom be cast without pausing/stopping my char dead in its tracks?
  2. Within Rive’s node “Gaze into the Abyss”; it reads “…void damage ( multiplicative with…” but that “(” never closes - the sentence should maybe be : " (multiplicative with other abilities) , but Rive …" You need a bracket before the " , but Rive"
    {small things lol}

Hi there

There is a node in the maelstrom skill tree that makes it instant cast (Instant cast can be cast while doing other abilities/moving). Node is called “Sudden Gale”, but gives Maelstrom a 2 second cooldown. (Bottom Right)

Also as an additional information, there are some ways to get 1 stack of maelstrom without casting it in the maelstrom skill tree. “Gathering Storm” (Top right).
There are also other means to get maelstrom stacks by passives/idols.
All of those will not “cast” maelstrom, so you will just instantly recieve 1 stack without stopping for the brief cast time.

The issue is not that - The issue is with the actual cast.

I have the node you are talking about, however, the actual casting of the ability, while your character is moving, causes your character to stop, dead, cast maelstrom, and then continue, cast maelstrom, character stops dead, casts maelstrom, continues.
Activating the ability, while moving, stops your character, ability casts, character can move again.

I appreciate your feedback, but that is only if you decide to spec towards that, I went to other nodes and yet to find idols/gear etc to give passive charges.

This will come across rude, but not intended (text never conveys emotion nor tone) : in all arpg’s movement, casting and combat is “fluid” and it is possible to have that cast not stop my character dead - also slows actual combat.
Similar to you walking and stopping each time you need scratch, cough, breath or the like

Combat is too fast to build stacks during a fight…keeping the stacks up between encounters is more beneficial and then well…my initial input of stopping dead.

The acolyte has a similar issue with one of their skills - it just escapes me now.

Hope this helps and again, thank you for the response.

Are you sure u put 1 point into it? Ive tested it and when you have 1 in sudden gale making it instant cast it does NOT stop your character

unfortunately this is just one of the balancing aspects of this game. if you choose not to go for instant cast with maelstrom, there is a cast time. if you choose to go for instant cast, there will be a cooldown. your choice matters.

you can attempt to lessen the effect of stopping to cast by getting cast speed, and you can get cooldown reduction to lessen the cooldown, but these limitations are there for a reason.

there are ways to auto-cast, as heavy mentioned, including idols and (if memory serves) a chance to cast it when you get hit somewhere in the skill tree.

i don’t think you intended offense with your post, but i don’t think you’ll get much traction lecturing the members of this forum on what arpgs are like. we are all avid arpg fans here. this game is about making significant choices about how you want to build, and making trade offs. it’s not going to be a carbon copy of other arpgs, so i’d recommend trying to approach it with a fresh mindset instead of trying to make it fit your preconceptions.

I understand - Did not mean any offence in any way.

I am an idiot - had to log in and check…
Well that is pie in my face lol

Apologies for wasting every one’s time…

no worries! i didn’t think you did.

i understand how different this game can feel coming from something like PoE or D3, where speed and fluidity dominate. you’re not the first to find some aspects of the game slow, but i think it’s by design. for me LE is a refreshing change of pace after playing over 3k hours of PoE over the years.

everybody makes mistakes.

i can understand if you prefer not to follow a build guide and figure stuff out on your own, but i’d highly recommend checking out a few. there are several really detailed ones in text and video form available that can help you get familiar with common ways of building around the skills. the game is a lot of fun and will be growing a lot as we get closer to 1.0, so there’s plenty to explore.

apologies if the tone of my earlier post was harsh. there’s been a bit more unconstructive feedback (and whining) than usual on the forum lately and i feel like my first comment wasn’t very welcoming.

not harsh at all

I just have not specced towards that node - Going for a full Thunder and Cold build.

Now that I know where that stop comes from…I am all good lol. No longer a sore point.
