Iam having an absolute blast with this new patch.
The only problem is that the performance is pretty bad for me and my friend.
In a lot of areas the fps is between 12 fps and 30 fps, even at low settings.
When i had the settings on high i had the same performance.
I play on a:
ASUS TUF Gaming FX505DU
8gig ram
AMD Ryzen 7 3750H 2,30 ghz
Nvidia Geforce GTX1660ti
This is a 950 euro laptop which i bought 1 year ago.
I expected a bit more then 12 to 30 fps and 30 fps is if iam “lucky”.
I played Cyberpunk on this laptop on release and it was running really good. This is a pretty heavy game.
I understand that this game is in beta, at the same time i did expect a better performance then this to be honest. This makes me worry about the performance with certain builds in multiplayer.
It really ruins the fun for me. And i didn expect a midrange 950 euro laptop to run this game so poorly.
I did noticed however that i had a worse performance while playing this build then playing builds with less “proc chance” skills in it.
However even there the performance wasnt that great.
I just had an arena echot and the FPS was dropping to 2-3 fps which i never ever had in any game in my entire life. Not even in path of exile with the biggest packs i could imagine.
I know they are way further in development so it is not a fair comparison. Iam just said that this is unplayable now for me.
I even have a feeling that there was a point that the performance in last epoch was better then this in 0.8.2.
Also, playing on very low or high settings doesn’t or barely seem to chance anything which is really strange.
Even when the waves were done it raised up to 14 fps and was it.
Despite literally NOTHING happening. I really think there is something wrong in the system since my friend encounters the exact same issues.
Does anyone has tips to boost the performance in LE?
I play druid spriggan form and i use Jitkang his build but on level 78
You should probably move this to the Technical /Bug section
Some questions;
Do you experience this on any class build? I.e. if you create a brand new character and run through the campaign maps do you get the same <30fps framerate?
You shouldnt be getting <30fps @ 1080p on a 1660ti on low… That is not normal and there has to be a cause for this. I run a 1060 GPU @ 1080p, Very Low settings, and I barely ever get to less than 25fps… most of the time its in the late 45-55fps and if I am willing to let my fans go crasy, I can play in the 60s most of the time. A mobile 1660ti should be getting roughly the same performance… Obviously if there are 50 mobs on screen and you are hitting them all with some kind of nuke then your FPS will drop - those kinds of performance issues will happen until the devs can spend some time optimising things - but it will always be an issue with older/slower hardware to some extent.
Some standard housekeeping things:
Make sure your BIOS is updated with the latest for your Laptop.
Make sure all device drivers for your Laptop are updated.
Make sure your Graphics Driver is up to date and that it was installed using a clean safe mode installation (or DDU) not a normal upgrade install.
Make sure your OS is patched and there are no outstanding updates/failed updates.
Make sure the game is installed properly (Steam Game File verification).
Very important: Make sure that Last Epoch is set to ONLY run on the 1660Ti graphics card… It must NOT run on the Vega iGPU built into your CPU. You can do this in the driver config or in the Advanced Graphics settings on Win 10.
Make sure your Laptop is in performance mode while playing LE… It should not be in any dynamic or balanced mode as this can mess things up and cause really poor in-game performance.
Dont run any other third party applications while playing LE… Doesnt matter what it is or how irrelevant it may be, just for testing purposes, dont run it… Especially overlays and even things like Citrix/Teamviewer… Just temporarily dont run anything/dont start the service etc.
Failing all of the above, please can you post your player.log, le_graphicsmanager.ini and the output of a dxdiag report. There may be something there that explains what could be happening
Ah ok sorry, i dont think i can move this to the technical/bug section now. I will repost it there aswell then.
I do experience the same below 30 fps performance on the other classes.
The strange thing is that a few big patches ago i had less fps/performance issues then i have now. Sometimes it feels like the map or echo is ramping up the performance the longer iam in it. Even when nothing happends (so no enemies no attacking etc).
Even in the end of the world before you choose what to do i had like 16 fps. Normally i had 60 fps a few patches ago ( i skipped a few after that).
Exactly thats why iam so suprised and the thing is iam not only noticing the difference on my laptop. On my pc i have a 1070ti ROC which normally was pretty stable between the 50-60’s in crowded area’s etc but now its 30 fps and sometimes less.
I understand that fighting situations can reduce performance, however it was still horrible it places like i mentioned above were nothing happend (so also outside fighting areas).
I did all this except for the Steam Game File verification, iam going to try that now, thanks.
I have this set to 1660TI in the nvidia config. I would love to see an option however to be able to check ingame for example if LE took the right one.
One time my laptop randomly switched it and POE was running the dedicated one. I could check it ingame so i swapped it back to automattically which fixed it strangly enough.
Do you know any other way if i can check that in LE?
I actually already use high performance mode which is what you meant right?
Iam dont know how to do that but i will look how i can do that if nothing works.
There is no way to actively see it during play directly in-game.
A way to check in-game is to monitor your GPU usage with something like Rivatuner or run the game in windowed mode (important if you use Task manager) and monitor the GPU in Task manager - LE should be using one of them far more than the other so it should be obvious which one.
Yes… the key is the laptop must no be allowed to dynamically reduce performance to save battery - another thing that sometimes helps is to plug in to its power brick. All laptops have their own apps and they can sometimes override the built in Windows settings so its important to check…
That doesnt make sense… Unless you are running higher quality at higher resolutions you shouldnt be getting that low framerates… While I have noticed a little performance dip, especially with the newer skills, on average its hardly noticeable to me… Maybe a 2 or 3 fps at most… Definitely not dropping from 50’s to 30’s - thats crazy and most people would be up in arms with such a big drop in performance.
One other concern: Do you have any half sync / aa / vsync type configurations enabled at the driver level? Its important to double check as these can wreck havok with the game - especially if there are conflicting settings.
The biggest issue is your 8gb ram. My hardware has also only 8gb ddr3 ram, and when i have to fight against much enemys, my fps goes down ( from 60 to 15-20 ). Open the Taskamanager, than start the game. If the ram on high usage, there you will find the big problem
RAM is partly to blame, but from my observations, RAM usage is heavily linked to in-game settings - i.e. Very Low uses FAR less RAM than Ultra… 5-7GBish vs 10-12GBish averages on a 16GB machine. Note: RAM does range up and down quite a bit (by GBs) and 0.84 does seem to use more than 0.83… I have also noted that RAM can take quite some time to drop back down after spiking up - which is not great on systems with less.
The OP has indicated that a Low setting still doesnt address the issue - which means that the issue is more than just RAM…
Obviously if the OP is running something else at the same time and using up all available RAM and the system is being forced to juggle RAM and SWAP, then thats a possibility, but generally RAM on its own, while higher than it probably should be imho (Not sure on Unity RAM usage), is unlikely to the the culprit of such excessive FPS loss.
Edit: added some more info after testing a little on 0.8.4e
I upgraded my laptop from 8 gig to 32 gig. It does run better now but its still worse then i expected. The main issue is that in some maps i can notice the big difference in fps spikes getting very low. Lower then i ever had in Last Epoch.
I only run a 1080 p so on very low i expected way better performance.
Also i used to play Last Epoch on high so i really dont understand what changed it so much.
Quick question regarding the GPU driver… what is the version?
Reason I ask is that it seems like there are quire a few laptop users having strange performance issues in the last week or so… Perhaps is the most recent 15 Dec drivers that are involved…
