Pause game please

I’ve died a couple of time just looking at my inventory or something I may need. I feel I clear the ares but some random mob comes and smacks me and I die. I know this might be a low level thing but that’s when I’m comparing items to replace my current gear.

Can we get some kind of pause when talking to NPC’s, viewing inventory or looking at a exiled mage. It’s a bit annoying.

Devs would like ot add pause to the game (in online, because offline already has pause), but it’s not as easy as it looks, especially when you consider group play.
Should come at some time in the future.

It shouldn’t be available for groups unless everypne agrees to it, like a ready check, I think the main use would be for when you’re playing by yourself online (like how PoE does it).

I think the main issue about pausing when playing online is simply that you won’t release the server.
Each server will get gradually filled with new instanced from players and after a while the server is “full” and won’t accept new ones. At which point the game opens a new server and starts filling those up.
The old server then starts releasing instances as players get finished with them or they idle away. When there are no more instances, that server is disposed of.

With pause, though, you won’t get kicked for inactivity. You can simply pause the game, go have lunch or whatever for 1-2-4-8h and the server will still be stuck there, unable to be disposed of because it still has an “active” instance.

That is the main issue I see with online pause. I know PoE fixed that a long time ago (you never get kicked out and you can stay in the same area for hours), so it would be nice if LE could fix that as well.
Maybe when a server only has instances that are inactive for too long they move them to an active one?

Then again, the issue might be a completely different one altogether and EHG devs are reading this and laughing their asses off.

I think there is 0 need for this. If someone messes up and get’s killed because they are spaced out for whatever reason it’s a user problem. If I need a pause for whatever I open a portal and take my time in base.

That’s a “design decision” though, you could still have someone kicked for inactivity after a duration, though the duration should probably be longer if you’re paused.

I don’t quite get why you’d kill off the server when it’s empty, why wouldn’t you add more instances to it rather than spinning up a new server?

This would be appliable except some people hardly have time to even do this.
There are plenty of reasons why this could be useful. For example, if a wasp is buzzing around you, you don’t want to waste the time to portal out and make sure you’re not dead before dealing with that.

Not only that, but if an emergency does arise, being penalized for it (you do lose stability, or if you’re in the middle of a chaotic fight, you can even die just trying to open the portal. After all, the portal isn’t instantaneous and has a 1-2s delay before you can portal out) is unnecessary.

I see no reason why you wouldn’t have pause available when you have that option in most games, even online ones.

When you contract a server farm for this type of service, you don’t get physical servers to work with. You get VM ones that are opened as you need them and the old ones get released as they become empty. This is an automated process where you just say you want another instance and the system decides if they need to open a new one.
You pay more the more open servers you have. So you always want to release the inactive ones as soon as you can.

This would be a reason where I don’t care if the game has a pause or not. Even taking time in this scenario to press pause would be a moron move if your real life depends on it instead of loosing several minutes of progress in a video game. Keep it real man. If they cater to everything that could happen they don’t need to make a game anyway because tomorrow i could get hit by a metor the size of my ass if they don’t add anti metor meassures.

Again if there is an emergency F all but the emergency I focus on instantly. I don’t give a rats behind what I lose if a RL emergency is avoided by jumping instantly… because you know it’s an emergency.

I know almost no online game where you can pause… right now from the top of my mind I couldn’t come up with anything.

If pause was just a single kind of code without any technical issues EHG quote for everything people want then okay go for it. If it takes up developer time for no good then put it at the end the list and go for more important stuff because in all fairness and with “emergencys” in mind a pause option is not very important at all.

Both PoE1 and 2 have it (PoE1 added it this league).
Deep Rock Galactic also does this. So does Warframe. Couldn’t be bothered to search for more.

Many online games let you do so. They just only let you do that when you’re solo, not grouped.

PoE 1 allows you to pause, hence my comments further up:

Enough to begin with. I never use pause in an online game though because I use the means I have like a TP :man_shrugging: .

Yeah @DJSamhein beat you to it already. It looks like I’m ignorant of puase features though and that they are a tad bit more widespread then I thought. Then again I never bother the people I play with into forced pauses and ruin there day because they need to wait for me.

Almost all only give you pause when playing solo, though, not in group play. During group play, pause is disabled.
